The 212 is still a decent fan.

agreed, but maybe if I was going to shell out 2000$ for a system I would spend more than 29 bucks on cpu cooling.

Well saying as someone might be spending 2k on a build, the 212 is a good option to use until they can save up another 100-200 for a higher end cooler. It's better to cheap out on the fan and don't overclock the cpu rather than cheap out on the PSU.

you're completely right. I still would laugh at your face if you handed me a 7980XE and an intel stock cooler and said "extreme cooling, check it out"

yes, and the 2200G is a decent CPU. Doesn't change the fact that I wouldn't want either of them within 20ft of my $2000 build.

It doesn't bite and it's not going to spread worms through all the nearby components unless you dug the 212 up from the earth. I do not think it falls under the "EXTREME COOLING" category, however I don't think anything using fans or AIO's could be considered EXTREME COOLING.

yeah, an NH-D15 or h115i, etc would at least not be so laughable if they were labeled "extreme cooling", though.

I mean, if I'd seen either of those, or at least a cooler that cost more than $50 on there, I probably wouldn't have made this post.

I think the time has come to regulate the use of the word extreme.

Also, did donald trump write the definition for extreme?

Quote

ex·treme
ikˈstrēm/
adjective

  1. 1.
reaching a high or the highest degree; very great.

lol nothing wrong with that. It's just basically the lowest end cooler you could go for before it got a bit ludicrous. It's not wrong to use those coolers in those builds, it's just like putting an H115i on a pentium and calling it "basic cooling"

nah I get it, for the 2K $ spent they should be recommeding that, at least a 50 bucks noctua, that could "qualify" for "extreme", even if extreme is more like... that huge noctua cooler or watercooling directly?

for the 6700K it was enough to use that basic cooler, used to cost 30 euros or so.

edit: also had a bad experience with the hyper evo, it has these plastic bits to fix it on the mobo, but if you start moving it around (taking it off and puting it back on a few times) these plastic things just break? so I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Depending on the pentium you're talking about it could be considered basic lol. Prescott comes to mind.

I got into PCs around the skylake release era, so any pentiums that precede the the "core i" lineup, I'm extremely unfamiliar with. So, limiting myself to the pentiums of the last 10 years, my comment stands lol
