The FE is a fine card. It may be louder than aftermarket coolers but the performance will be almost the same. talking about a 2-5% max drop in performance. Something you may never notice.

I just bought a gtx1080FE card new for $565. Was it a mistake to not get a card with fans. Or is the blower good enough. Performance? Quality?

Blowers are enough, though open coolers are better.

 

Quality-wise, reference cards could be better than cheaper custom cards.

I see nothing wrong with the purchase, 1080's were going for 800+ dollars just a little ago... It'll be a perfectly capable card even when the new gen comes to the market.

I always cringe when I see that word. Everything you were saying was just what the OP wanted to hear, until that last sentence. Now hes hoping he doesn't notice lol.

 

I am not sure how different these pascal reference blowers are, coming from a Maxwell 980ti reference blower, it was very loud and it was very hot, but it ran beautifully.

Pascal has improved it a lot, I also had a TITAN X Maxwell and the 1080 Ti is more than noticeable quieter, if OP has a common 1080p screen he can just v-sync and never hear any thing from it.

i have one, the sound isnt too bad. playing at 4k she would run full tilt and it wasnt much louder than say a case fan full speed. a bonus is if you ever want to water cool, theres a million and 1 different options for an FE card vs say a custom AIB card

Same price I paid a few months ago. 

 

No reason to not get an fe. Looks better, for a 10 gen card. 

 

I ran to on air and can’t hear them over a single case fan at 60%. Better overall compared to my strix or super clocks.

New fe or evga sc go for that price. I sold my two fe's on ebay for 520. So ill say no it wasn't.
