According to newegg, the 2600, 2700, and their (x) variants are all faster, which we expected, but not by much.  This is good for amd as a whole and may be improved by overclocking results.  IDK if anyone has posted about this yet.

4.3GHz is nice. It's expected from more refined refresh. Slight clock bump and some improvements in cache and CCX latencies too.

7nm Zen will be very exciting to see though. Give me 5GHz 8-core :P

the R7 2700X is what I would go for, and if you are using something like Aura sync that cooler would be Neato because it looks pretty cool and it should sync ( its only sold together with the 2700X )

Spoiler

Image result for wraith prism cooler

Also On the jump from 65 watts for the 2700 to 105 on the 2700X should be good for overclocking ( hopefully )

Yeah makes sense for these SKUs since new 2000 series APUs cover the quad core tier.

preordering anything is a terrible idea, it doesn't matter what it is.  You're saying "I don't care about reviews, I want this even if it's terrible", not to mention you're paying now for something you only get later.

Does only the "X" model get the big cooler? Or does the 2700 only get a spire?

I pre-ordered 1st gen Ryzen as I wanted to join in the fun of testing them and discovering how they perform compared to Intel, given the major changes from previous AMD generations. However... this time around I'm not pre-ordering. Rumours on minor improvements and a slight clock increase are less exciting. I might still get one to play with eventually, but this time I will wait for others to lead the way.

That depends in part on who you order from. Best practice here is they only charge on dispatch. Amazon UK do that, as do one of my preferred suppliers. For sales to consumers there is also a right to return.

Doesn't EU law state state that it's illegal to charge before shipping? Or perhaps it just local. Where I'm at, the law says no charging before. Which is great.

As much as you are right, people are happy to see their desires answered with faster ipc and clock speeds, which even if it means a little bit more performance, it's just a bit closer to their prospective on amd.  I, for one, am very excited to see that they bumped up speeds (mind you they are stock speeds) about 300 mhz on average, and even if this is not the answer to beat intel's performance, it is something that leads consumers to believe that there may be a day when amd is better than intel in the consumer world.

It's a good improvement for sure (or at least it looks like it).  I'm not saying it isn't.  In fact (perhaps with the exception of the memory controller) more frequency is the main thing they needed.  They already had good core counts, low prices, good efficiency, and at least decent IPC.

I agree.  The only thing holding them back was them trying to put up stock speeds of 3.6 ghz against intel's 4.2 ghz in certain skus.

Not a legal expert so can't confirm that. I'm sure I've paid up front for items that were not yet available, but thinking more, they weren't necessarily within EU.

Back on original topic, I just saw UK pre-order pricing at one retailer. It is a bit lower than I thought... (the rule of thumb is USD1 = GBP1 when it comes to PC hardware)

R5 2600 - £169.99

R5 2600X - £193.49

R7 2700 - £256.99

R7 2700X - £282.98

Can't see anything on Amazon UK, unless they're already sold out and removed the listing so I can't search for it.

So from what I have seen they removed a lot of the 8 cores and went with fewer flavors. The 2700x being the new top dog (or maybe we see a 10-12 core 2800 and 2800x)

That being said the increase in clocks is due to the DIE shrink and really only went from the 4.1ghz the 1800x was doing with XFR to 4.3ghz. People will shortly find out that the overclock wall is till there so don't expect these chips to be pushing much beyond the 4.3ghz turbo.

There were no IPC improvements made, so this won't help them much vs intel except for a tiny single thread performance bump. The new cooler is nice though.

That being said don't expect these chips to be a game changer. Chances are you are still better off with a 7700k or 8700k for gaming and if you do need more multi-threading than the 8700k offers you can jump on the enthusiast i9 platform and kill off all the AMD offerings. I mean have you see the 18c intel chip pushing 4.5ghz on 18 cores!! That is just pure beast mode.
