Why is the i5 8400 faster than the i5 7500

Why is the i5 8400 faster than the i5 7500 even though it has 2.8 GHz whereas the 7500 has base frequency of 3.4 GHz?

1. Base clock is irrelevant in benchmarks, as the CPU will turbo (up its speed) when possible. Now comparing the 8400 vs. the 7500 it's 4Ghz vs. 3.8Ghz.

2. The 8400 has two physical cores more, so it can do more per second

All core turbo of 8400 is 3.8GHz when things dont need AVX. Games dont use it for now.

Hey everyone, thanks for responding!!

Does the 4GHz mean 4GHz per core or for the entire processor in total?

While there are only z370 motherboards, there will be 4ghz on all core
