Intel stock cooler vs aftermarket cooler

MyDogAteMySocks

I'm looking to get the i5 8400 when the new motherboards come out. Would I need to get an aftermarket cooler or would the stock one with the Intel thermal paste be enough?

stock cooler will keep it form throttling and let it run at full speeds. An aftermark cooler will be quieter and cooler, but id personally try the stock first and the 8400 isn't really that hot of a chip.

stock one would be good enough but sometimes it gets noisy,

you can use the stock one and see if it is too loud for you, and then when it gets too loud you can buy a aftermarket cooler

there's no point in getting an aftermarket cooler if it is cooling the cpu enough, and it is quiet enough.

people buy aftermarket simply because the cooler is too shit for overclocking, or it is too loud for their uses.

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

There's no overclocking on the 8400. So that isn't much of a concern.

Just use the stock cooler first. If temperatures aren't to your liking, get some aftermarket cooler.

I don't know what would be considered "normal" temperatures on an Intel chip.
