AMD being killed once again in laptops, this time by Dell.

Dell’s Latest AMD Inspiron Laptops Are Crippled Compared With Intel Versions, just so they can keep licking Master Intel's boots

I hope this gets to Linus' eyes and all the other people in the industry, because BS like this is what keeps competition away and forces us to buy at higher prices and 5% generation improvements and dual core i5 laptops up until this year when Intel got kicked in their faces as well as bu*ts by Ryzen.

And just when AMD are trying to bring all the Ryzen goodness to laptops which is where the bulk of market share and revenue lies, Dell is once again showing it to all of us that anti-competitive and strategies like this is needed to keep Intel on top and increase sales.

I have nothing to say. The article says it all.  And Ryzen Mobile is sure as hell not costlier than an i5. I hope people take notice of this stuff and bring it to the notice of one and all. It looks like history is trying to repeat itself and I kind of smell foul play here.

Nothing short of MANIAC.

No one except business people care about Dell and Intel will probably always have the IT idiots that work for big companies on their side. Dell makes shit laptops for the price, IMO.

The only good thing to come out of Dell is the new late 2017 7567 gaming laptop.

No seriously dude, I mean WTF. That was my reaction when I read the article and compared the specs. Its like Dell isn't even being modest about being biased to Intel here. A Ryzen 3 2200U at 680 bucks? Do they think the average user is an Idiot?

Well the average user of a DELL laptop probably has no idea what a cpu is, so yes i think that they are a idiot.

Latitudes are pretty solid laptops, though. I have an E6410 and an E6420 ATG, and both see a ton of use with no issues. The 7567 i5/1050 Ti gaming laptop, speaking from owning one, is great.

And Dell is hardly the only OEM that pushes Intel or overcharges. Have you seen how much a ThinkPad costs these days?

The average user these days has an internet connection and access to benchmarks and reviews. An average user knows how to react to R3 V/S i5. The maximum no. of sales comes from such average users buying average laptops and not convertibles or ultraslims like the ones Acer, HP and Lenovo launched at Ryzen Mobile's unveiling. The point is not this. The point is how long do companies like Dell need to believe that Ryzen is good enough? They have had a successful year on desktops, ASUS and Acer already have a pretty good lineup of  gaming laptops coming out. So when do sensible average laptops with Ryzen come out? When CryNet becomes a reality?

And how do you define last? I have got 3 laptops which are about 6, 8 and 5 year old respectively. They are all modest spec laptops with a 2nd gen core i5, an Atom and a Core 2 duo model. They have lasted fine till now and are running fine(with respect to today's computing standards).

Dell realizes that most people won't buy AMD anyways because they're the "who are they?" brand, so they're not bothering putting resources into building AMD configured systems.

I think there's still a lot of unknowns here. We don't know what the tray price of a Ryzen 3 2200U is (though the article does make a point that Intel's published pricing is questionable) and we don't know if Intel is undercutting the CPUs for OEMs like Dell so that they can price them at the price point Dell is setting it at. Yes, the SKU pricing does hint that something isn't right, but is it outright proof Dell doesn't like AMD? No.

And these practices are what keeps AMD away from the average person's knowledge. No shit, ask any random person about a CPU manufacturer and they will tell you Intel in a jiffy. Reason? Laptop advertisements on televisions and newspapers and magazines and what not with the Intel Inside logo. Laptops are marketed to people, not desktops. People who own or buy desktops know who or what AMD is but desktops aren't and never will be the leading revenue generator for a company.

Haven't verified the pricing as I only look like once every 5 years or more when I replace mine.

Wonder if there's a self fulfilling prophecy here. Dell doesn't expect to sell many AMD laptops. Dell doesn't buy as many AMD devices. Dell doesn't get a good price on AMD devices. Dell sells expensive AMD laptops. Dell doesn't sell many. Repeat.

Open question, how do Dell's Intel laptops compare with other manufactures? How does Dell's AMD laptops compare with other manufacturers? As a business they want to maximise their overall profits, regardless if it's at AMD or Intel's hands.

No, but I'd like to know what Intel is really charging Dell or if Dell is making the Intel SKU a loss leader.

But that sort of information is only known behind closed business doors.

Dell's laptops are always overpriced compared to others, at least here in India they are by about 5%to 10%. There are hardly any AMD laptops these days but this one was released by HP recently.
