4GB NV Cards

Go to solution Solved by suchDelishus,

Yes, i would say 780 at least, R9 290's have sky rocketed in price.

I would be aiming for 780 SLi if i were you.

Unfortunately this out of my price point at this time. But I do appreciate the input you gave me here.

Just wanted to get some opinions.

I'm looking to set up a gaming system that I want to last a long time without need of replacing gpus every other year. I'm hoping to get 4+ years out of the gpu set. With the increase in in-game texture resolution I want to get some 4gb cards (looking at SLI). I'm looking to play on one 1080p screen (144hz with Gsync). I want to maintain 60+ fps on games over the course of the next three or four years on high/ultra mixtures and 4x AA or so. I don't need ALL the eye-candy but I'd like to have a good chunk of it. I know that there is no such thing a "future-proof" build but I want this to last me a while before I need to upgrade.

Just want some opinions on SLI and if we will hit over 2gb on a 1080p screen anytime soon (I have heard BTF4 is around 1.7G). I'd rather spend more money now than a year or two down the road be bottlenecked by vram. Furthermore I'd like to know if anyone thinks (pure speculation) if  two 760's or 770's will be under-powered or not.

Feel free to call me out if I've made a mistake in my thought process here.

Thanks in advance

Two 760's and Two 770's are in the range of the 780Ti. That would be a much better solution in the short term. Once a single 780ti is no longer acceptable you can add a second after maxwell comes out and prices drop, that will provice the longevity you are looking for.

Do not buy the 4GB 760 or 770's, they do not have bus to use it properly.

The ideal is to stay away from Sli for as long as possible, while stuttering isnt much of an issue anymore there is still a second level of complexity over a single card solution.

Well... I'm not looking to drop more than $700 on I'd really rather stay in the $500 neighborhood. Looks like that is not possible? As i stated in my first post I do not need all of the eye candy. I am ok with a mix of lower setting. You still think that SLI set up will get outdated so quickly?

I do understand the benefit to a single GPU but I am kind of on a budget.

Thanks for the replies

So helpful. I understand that you insist on calling people out when you think they are dumb. I am here to get my questions answered. You could've just said "that's not possible and here is why". what you decided to do is much more helpful.
