1080p or 1440p

I've been debating the same myself. I have a 24" Dell 1080p (U2414H) and I've been looking to size up to 27" (with the 24" as a secondary). I'm not sure whether I should get the same 27" Dell (SE2717HR, 1080p IPS) that I got my son or save up and get a 1440p.

I went from 1080p 120Hz TN to a 1440p IPS 144Hz, amazing difference, but i did notice FPS games were harder.

1440p is great for the extra pixels when using the desktop, but I usually still play games at 1080p so I can max them out without having to upgrade my GPU

Psh I have balls of steel and still tend to push 1440p with higher settings on a 7950 even if it means 25-30FPS

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. 1440p might be overkill now but at the same time I wanna be like @Slick and get YEARS and YEARS out of my monitors without needing to upgrade. That said, the SE2717HR is $149 at MicroCenter, so it's not really breaking the bank. It just doesn't have two HDMI ports, which I kinda wanted.

A monitor upgrade will last longer than most any other part (except maybe PSU). I get great FPS with my setup, but i know my next GPU upgrade will be able to push this monitor like it needs. This maybe a long time from now, dam miners screwing up my upgrade plan

I use a 24" Mg248q Asus 144hz 1ms gaming monitor but after purchasing a 1440p IPS benq for my GF's computer that will be my next monitor size/resolution.
