CPU Cooler Performance Tier List

2 hours ago, SkyStreaker said:

@WoodenMarker having it be at temps that are considered practically correct/safe/etc would be nice. The fans I currently have will be replaced with Noctua Casefan NF-P14S Redux 1200 PWM (2 bottom, 3 front, 3 top, 1 back) unless other brands/types are just as "good".

The 5800x3d isn't hard to cool. It will throttle to prevent damage if needed. Feel free to replace case fans if you want something quieter but the stock fans and an aftermarket cooler should be plenty for cooling already.

Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme

That cooler has no mounting hardware for newer sockets. So it seems to be outdated for tier II.

It should be fine especially with tuning. Depending on the workload, it may peak up to 90c.

Where should the ID-Cooling 224XTS be?
Also, for cooling a 5600X, 5800x3d or 7800x3d, would a single-tower cooler(like the 224XTS) be enough to avoid throttling?

Added to the list - it seems to be similar to or slightly better than the SE-224 XT.

The 5600x is easily cooled by just about any single tower cooler. The 7800x3d should be fine with decent case airflow. The 5800x3d should be fine under gaming loads, with some tuning, or if you don't mind the fans ramping up. Otherwise, it may be worth getting a slightly beefier cooler for lower noise.

Awsome, thanks a lot. Also, would changing the fan for something 30mm at some point be a good idea maybe?

You'd be better off getting a beefier cooler to begin with instead. A fan upgrade only improves so much.

Probably Tier 1 but need more benchmark results to confirm before adding to the list.

The SE-224 XTS seems to perform a bit better. Both are great options and will easily cool the 5600.

Where are the A720 and A620 in the tier list?
i read the review of tomshardware, A620 same PS120 and A720 same FC140

Thermal results without power limits - ID-Cooling FROZN A720 and A620 Review: A New King of Air Cooling - Page 2 | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com)

and i found some videos in youtube about them

Thanks for the links.

Would like to see more reviews / benchmarks for the coolers before adding but my guess would be Tier 3 for A620 and maybe Tier 2 for the A720.

It's already in Tier 6. I've updated the naming so that it's a bit more clear.
