CPU Cooler Performance Tier List

any reviews on the deepcool gammax 400s and 400 v2?

The Gammaxx 400S seems to just be an Intel-only version of the 400 v2. I haven't found direct comparisons so I'm not sure how exactly the 400 v2 compares to the original but they seem pretty similar.

I don't remember where the other reviews were but I remember there were a few more when the 400 v2 was originally added to the list -- mostly from indirect reviews of other, newer coolers.

not quite. the gammax 400s black version is for AMD and INTEL as well. https://www.deepcool.com/product/cpucooler/2019-12/7_12828.shtml . the 400s with the blue light is for intel only https://www.deepcool.com/product/cpucooler/2019-11/7_12690.shtml . 400(S) stands for silent as the cooler spins to 1300RPM only. question was if there is any noticeble improvement over the original 400  as i think the 400s has a better mounting system and a different fan. surprised there is no review from the big and usual reviewers because the original 400 was a very popular cooler.

Thanks for the correction.

The Gammaxx 400 V2 and 400S seem to use the same mounting kit and the fans look identical in terms of dimensions / fan blade design so the 400S would probably just perform worse with the lower rpm.

My guess would be that the 400S also performs worse than the original but we need more data.

I'm not sure if it's due to lack of marketing or that the V2 / 400S are too similar but there is definitely very little coverage on these versions. A similar situation of little coverage can be seen with the Hyper 212X and consequently the dual fan version of the Hyper 212X.

I'm hoping the same thing won't happen to the Gammaxx 400 Pro / EX.

Looking for a quiet cooler for 5600x (b550 +6800xt) . No OC just hard gaming everyday.

i like how https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07R5TQQMR/?coliid=IX1OCGKJCD61U&colid=D3FO75TJA7GC&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it]  looks (180TDP) .

I see it's in Tier 5. Is it enough for my system ? or i need go for next one dark rock 4 (200TDP)

The DR Slim is plenty for cooling. I'm not sure what kind of prices you're looking at but there are probably cheaper options if you're just looking for a black cooler to keep temps in check.

The Gammaxx GTE V2 is a good example: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/QCvqqs/deepcool-gammaxx-gte-v2-645-cfm-cpu-cooler-dp-mch4-gmx-gte-v2bk

What ram are you using?

I meant the model name as opposed to the speeds. The physical dimensions of the ram may limit cooler compatibility.

Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO

The Ninja 5 may be even quieter although the front fan would overhang the ram which may defeat the point of rgb ram. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/dZ3H99/scythe-ninja-5-430-cfm-cpu-cooler-scnj-5000

If you'd prefer a slimmer cooler, the DR Slim is still a good option.

Ow yes, it's a bit to big for what i am looking for. Even the Dark Rock 4 the one after Slim is a bit smaller.

I could consider even AS500 Deepcool, it has a bit of RGB, newish, reviews are ok aswell.

This tier list is used to differentiate performance since benchmarks blur the lines with somewhat inconsistent results so more tiers is better. It isn't a list of recommendations nor meant to be a go-to guide for choosing a cooler.

Picking a cooler from a higher tier may be a safer choice when it comes to performance but it will neglect other aspects that are often important like acoustics, quality, aesthetics, ease of use, and customer support.

They are the exact same cooler, just with a better mounting system for AM4. (they used to use the stock spring clip system, now they screw in directly to the backplate) I know this because I have both.

They also both beat out the Hyper 212 line when paired with Arctic P12 fans in push-pull. (all hardware for that configuration is included) They are direct-contact heatpipe designs with 4 heatpipes that cover all heat generating surfaces of both AMD and Intel CPUs.

Are you sure that's the only difference? The specs and photos on the manufacturer pages and reviews show a differently shaped heatsink and different fans / rpm.

The fan has changed, (for the better) but everything else is the same apart from the mounting system between the two models I currently own. (and a slightly better termination of the heatpipes at the top)

There isn't a cutout on the side of the your heatsink on the original vs. the v2?

Ah, I completely ignored that... Yes, there is a cutout on the original that is not present on the V2. That might make it actually perform better. (I have to wait for my new CPU to come in before I can test it properly in a controlled environment)

Yes, they've been added to the list and are excellent performers. I'd like to separate the coolers currently in Tier 1 but need more time and data.
