CPU Cooler Performance Tier List

Hello, my friend considers buying a single fan Corsair H45.

This one in particular;

https://www.akakce.com/islemci-sogutucu/en-ucuz-corsair-hydro-series-h45-cw-9060028-ww-sivi-sogutma-fiyati,54097163.html

He has a Ryzen 2700x and wants to overclock it to at least 4.2 ghz/1.4v range.

Would this cooler do the trick? He's also streaming with x264 encoding. He wants to be below 65 degrees in stream+game scenarios. Is this possible with this cooler?

I see H45 as Tier 3 but dunno what tier accomodotates to what kind of cooling powers.

It's nowhere near good enough, the mofest, vrm get's noticeable hotter than a ryzen 3600 and no less than a 240 aio ,one pf the bigger noctuas or be quiet (2 fan) is a no go.

65c at 1.400 volt with a ryzen 5  2700x at 4.2 ghz  is difficult, you would get alot of noise when the a corsaire h45 trys to kep temsp under 65 (if fan curve is set to let the tempe get no higher than 65c when gaming)

Why does he need it to be 65C?

The H45 will cool an overclocked 2700X, but you should expect closer to 80C, not 65. And that's very safe.

Max is 85c https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-2700x if it stay at 80c when gaming it wil still be noisy and it wil get to hot if for some reason the cpu is used close to 100%

I'm quite happy with the Deepcool GAMMAXX GT A-RGB 120mm Hydro Bearing CPU Cooler. It has a 120mm aRGB fan that my mobo controls. It fits nicely in my case (Cooler Master MasterBox MB510L ATX Mid Tower) and handles mild overclocking without any problems.

My nephew built my system with a ginormous Noctua NH-D15 with 140mm fans. It was so big, it extended BEYOND the case! If it didn't have a flexible plexiglass side panel, he would have had to have used the stock cooler that came with the CPU.

I am not going to seriously overclock the CPU so I don't need a huge tandem cooler. The GAMMAXX does a fine job, and the aRGB fan looks sweet in my case.

where does the Lian li GALAHAD 360mm place on this list?

Added to the list. It pretty easily fits in Tier 1 since the list isn't that granular at the high-end.

How does the darkflash shadow do?

I don't see many reviews on it. It looks like an Intel stock cooler similar to those used on prebuilts from HP or Dell but painted black.

The Liqmax II 240 generally performs better than the Liqmax III 240 and ties at worst.

There isn't a K240 RGB in the list. I think you were looking at the Mercury M120 RGB after it.

Yep, and I haven't seen any reviews on it. First impressions from the looks and specs list indicates that it's nearly identical to the Kühler H2O K240.

I love how the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 120 is Tier 2, but everyone elsewhere keeps saying that 120mm AIOs aren't worth the price because air coolers beat it, despite the only air coolers that beat it being significantly more expensive.

The Liquid Freezer II series is a great performer in general.

I'm looking for a white 240 AIO and trying to decide between these 3 models: LIAN-LI Galahad, Corsair Hydro H100i RGB PLATINUM SE and the STRIX LC 240.
Now, there just doesn't seem to be many reviews for the Asus one? Certainly not like-for-like comparisons between the other two.

Any insight how the three stack up in performance and otherwise? Thanks!

Which size Galahad are you referring to?

If you're looking at 240mm's, the H100i RGB Platinum seems to be the best of the 3. https://www.eteknix.com/asus-tuf-gaming-lc-240-rgb-aio-cooler-review/6/

Yeah, i was referring to the Galahad 240 (though i can find the 360 cheaper than the other two 240..)
Thanks for the link. The question remains if the TUF LC 240 performs the same as the Strix LC 240.

It seems like all three are a good choice. I'll need to look-up other differences. For example, one of the models comes with the paste pre-applied.

The Strix probably performs a bit better due to the higher rpm fan but I'm not sure about the exact difference. If priced similarly, I'd still recommend going with the H100i RGB Platinum.
