Streaming W/ old hardware?

Those Xeons are quad core, but they're weak quad cores.  They would do 1080p 60fps if you tweak the encoder (preset ultra fast, disable CABAC etc etc) but it's a lousy buy.. and the software encoders don't like working with 2 separate processors (it's slower to transfer data between physical processors compared to using a bunch of cores on a single processor)

 

Basically, a single Ryzen 3 1200 will be about 10% faster than 2 x X5355 ( quad 2.66 Ghz) 

 

I'm not sure it's worth it.  You can get a Ryzen 3 2200g (99$) in around 2 weeks and you get integrated graphics with hardware encoder, add 40-50$ for motherboard add 40-50$ for psu and case and 40$ for memory and maybe 20-30$ for a hdd (if you can't reuse something you have around)  and you have a system for 200-250$

 

 

 

Just saw a rig on craigslist, i'm looking for a dedicated streaming machine. I'd like to stream at 1080p 60fps, my gaming rig can handle games at those settings but I cant stream settings that high at the same time.

The rig is a Dell Precision 690 W/ dual xeons. Quad cores clocked at 2.66ghz (not sure if 4 physical cores or digital 2 physical)

It has 16 GB of DDR2 memory

Hes only asking $100 for it, and im willing to gamble a little.

I just want to know if the multiple cores will make up for the lack of speed.

Will this rig theoretically be able to stream W/ OBS at 1080-60?

I can add a graphics card if need be.

Streaming Tetris maybe, but not much more. You want to look at newer chips with at least 4c/8t or better more.

Welcome, that PC you are looking at, what Xeons are in it? How many cores and clock speeds are they.
