Just bought a GTX 780 and im not feeling the 45 fps

SystemError
Go to solution Solved by FluffyNuggets,

Reinstall the drivers and do a clean install.

So as the title says i just purchased a gtx 780 and im getting no more than 35 fps on high to ultra on BF4. Its a gigabyte windforce oc'd one as well so i was hoping for a little more from it too. Im also running a 2500k at stock with 12 gigs of ram. Any takers on what could be going on here or am i simply overthinking things.

Yeah the 780 is a beast that should be getting WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than that on BF4.. and the 2500k is outdated, but still nothing to laugh at. Need more info. There's a lot of things it could be.

Check your settings in OC guru/Afterburner and have a look at GPU-Z if you are throttling.

Drivers are the latest and yes i agree the 2500k is old but definitely not showing its age, now that you mention it i am using beta drivers so i might roll back and i will have a geeze and see if im throttling. The reasons that brings me to this is that ive moved up from a twin frozr 3 6950 and it got near that on ultra granted it was 900p and now im at 1080. But ill take all the advice on board.

Nothing to do with your CPU, the issue is elsewhere.

So basically what you are seeing is a round of BF4 and this is mostly high to ultra. any thoughts? BF4 screwing me around or my beta drivers or perhaps the lack of windows 8.1?

LOL dude, your card is underclocked, your core clock and memory clock are running way too low.
you need to screase those to 875 mhz and 6000mhz respectively.

oh yea, and leave the fan speed on auto or adjust the fan curve within the settings of msi afterburner

Is this while playing BF4? Because it looks like your card is only being used for about 50-80%

I'm not sure, but I don't thinks that that is how they should run.

Sometimes I have a similar problem with my GTX285 (yeah I know it's ancient but maybe it's a similar problem), when I've Oc'ed it to much. The driver crashes but it doesn't always net me know and the card will be running at 2/3 of it potential power, (also down clocked to 400Mhz) the nvidia control center / driver thingy will restart and it will look like everything is fine but the card is still not at full power.

I fixed it by lowering my overclock (feels strage to lower your clockspeed and get more performance) and rebooting the system,

Are you sure your OC is stable? Because, like KR_king said if the drivers crash it will throttle the card. I noticed this when I didnt have enough voltage for the OC on my 780 as well.

Pre and post minor oc the game still runs like ass i suspect it could be the beta drivers and will roll back. Out of curiousity where it says my max power is 55 should that be any higher or lower

hes at stock settings at 0 @SystemError don't increase to 875mhz or 6000mhz this guy obviously doesn't know how the new ovrclocking numbers work you will probably fry that card if you turn it up that high.

my 770 is getting 60+ on those settings. Check your drivers as it might have been the latest one where i saw a large increase in performance. Be careful with the 3d res as well, make sure its at 100% however at 1080p a 780 could handle up to 150%

Try other games, you may just be having bad luck with BF4, 50% usage and 40FPS make sense, you should be getting twice as much. If you get shit performance in other games, there might be something wrong with your GPU.

Try these 2 things in BF4 first:

Unpark your cores.

Update your chipset drivers.

Actually, the memory clock in this case should be about 1500-1600mhz. 6k mhz is the "effective" memory.

Yup its lack of win 8.1 back when I had win 7 i also had the same erratic gpu usage and the game was unplayable. One thing you can try before you throw in the towel is this -
