Corsair RMx vs RMi?

I know that the i version has the corsair software but not the x version, is there any other difference? Component quality?

The RMx is stuck in single-rail only or multi-rail only, not sure of which off the top of my mind. The RMi's Link capabilities allow you to switch operations. The fan is also a rifle on the RMx while it's an FDB on the RMi.

RMi is slightly better but only really worth it if you want link.

Both are high end models, my brother recently got the x one and it is a very silent unit over all, no complains.

The RMi has corsair link (custom fan curve software, unnecessary imo) and a fluid bearing fan which will last marginally longer.

The RMx doesn't have corsair link, and has a rifle bearing fan (slightly worse).

There is functionally no difference. If you're a control freak about fan curves, get the RMi, but remember you're paying a premium for very little difference between the two.

what would you recommend? 650 w rmi or 750 w rmx? both are about the same price. 1700x and 1070

If they're the same price then the RMi, unless you plan to SLI.

What wattage are you talking about?

750W and up??

Either way, I'd get the i version over the X for various reasons - other than the link thingy...

I like the monitoring features of the i models. It's worth it to me personally, just for that.

Nah, you're thinking sleeves. Rifles are supposed to be mounted like that. I think there might be some issues if mounted vertically but I can't confirm that.

You're incorrect.  You're thinking of sleeve bearings.
