Is GTX1080 FTW2 worth buying over GTX1080 SC2

Korcan7

Hello, i am going to buy an gtx 1080 GPU. I have to buy an EVGA btw(global warranty). I have 2 options 1. is SC2 which is 529$ on amazon (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-GDDR5X-Technology/dp/B06W51YRVT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511451147&sr=8-1&keywords=gtx+1080+sc2). My second option is a FTW2 579$ on amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X3QRQJR/ref=twister_B01GFU3AW8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) . My country has ~%20 custom fee. So there is about 60$ differance. Is it really worth buying the FTW2 ?

No. Unless you like RGB. Overclocking yourself will cover up the performance difference

How about power pins? SC2 has 8 but FTW2 has 8+8. Is there any noticable overclocking difference ?

More of a gimmick than useful. Maybe a few MHz, very insignificant difference.

Then i guess buying SC2 makes more sense. Thanks for your help.

Overall the Overclocking difference will be more greatly affected by the silicon lottery than SC2 vs FTW2.

The FTW2 likely has a higher allowable power limit by a few percent (possibly 120% vs 112%)

They both will be bound by Nvidia's hard Voltage limit

They both will be kept cool by very similar coolers and have similar temperatures

They both will very likely clock somewhere around 2100Mhz

IMO: if you can fit it, the EVGA Hybrid models with the Hybrid AIO cooler are my favorite for the quietness and cooling capability.

My EVGA 1080 SC2 runs around 2000  without changing Clocks.   I did make this video of it playing SWBF2 at 2 K  2560 x1440 with a 50 MHz overclock and 400 MHz on memory

Overclocking the card does not do much because it is already clocked high for that card

if you can afford the FTW2, just pay 100 more for a 1080 ti, otherwise go with the cheaper 1080.
