So , now that the i3 8100 Coffee Lake is out , who will buy one of those?

I'll personally go for the Ryzen 3 1300X

Performance wise i3 8100 is better than Ryzen 4c/4t CPUs.

Not by much, but still better.

And you avoid all RAM problems + long boot times.

You buy that only to upgrade in the future to a 8600k or even 8700k. They are much better at games than AMD's offerings.

Oh no. Since H and B chipsets for Coffee isnt out, I'd rather have a Ryzen 3 or quad core Ryzen 5 instead.

Still very I would say. I was going for the 8350k but now the 8400 i5 instead seems the best value to me.

It outperforms an overclocked Ryzen 3 CPU (just barely though).  Eventually you'd replace it (just like every component in a PC), but it does quite well at the moment.

How does it cost less? Z370 boards don't cost too much ($100), and you don't have to buy high frequency RAM for good performance like with Ryzen. These are the cheapest components I could find.

While I normally recommend 3200MHz RAM, I cut some slack there because 3000MHz still gives acceptable performance. An R3 1200 and R5 1500 are basically identical, except the R5 has SMT, which isn't really helpful for gaming. Ryzen is a shit overclocker. At this moment, Intel beats AMD in gaming. I'm guessing that will change with Ryzen Refresh, but the new i3's are excellent for gaming. It should last fine until Intel's next Whatever-Lake, in which case you can keep the board and RAM. 

 

I'm not really recommending people buy the ones I listed, I'm just saying that the i3-8100 is definitely more than a place holder.

It seems like the i3-8100 is just a i5 with 4 cores and a different name....Plus , the Ryzen 3 is cheaper with its AM4 motherboards....atleast in my country

No turbo boost (so lower frequency), but a higher cache to make up for it. The latter is often overlooked.

That guy didnt overclock the R5 for the benchmarks. Being able to overclock without spending a lot (or get stupid stuff like the 7350k) is why people buy Ryzen CPUs.

Once the lower cost mobos come out, I think the 8100 will be the AVX2 (FMA3) compute farm CPU of choice. It'll take an 8 core Ryzen to come close to matching it in performance.

Well , you got higher speed ram for that r5 , when in reality , you might already be hitting diminishing returns , and the 2666 kit can be overclocked.

 

By going with a coffelake i3 at this time , you're paying the same amount of money for a locked quad core than a overclockable 6 core with SMT. The i3 does NOT have turboboost , so it will be stuck at 3.6ghz MAX . Especially once overclocked, the r5 will be faster in EVERY category , MT and ST.
