Upgrade to 1700X from 1600?

Tis the season of sales, and the 1700X is going at up to 30% less than RRP. Question is, should I dive in and replace my 1600?

Why not the 1700? You're not actually getting any benefits from the X models aside from slightly higher base clock, which all 1700s can match at lower power consumption.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

the question is, for what are you upgrading?

Simply because it's a good deal.

The 1700X is actually cheaper than the 1700 at sale price.

You better have a reason for the upgrade because gaming wise it won't change a thing most likely

If you have the cash, I'd say why not.

Replace something perfectly functional that attends your needs for something that will do it just as much without actual improvements is not exactly what people understand for "good deal", you're rather wasting money altogether going through the trouble.

As already mentioned by @dave_k the motherboard is not the most appropriated for the processor as well.

An upgrade shall be permitted at your own decision, is your workload more CPU intensive (i.e. video editing), are you not getting the performance that you need. Only upgrade if you need to.

I think I'd like to class this as "trying to fix something that isn't broken"

This only works if you're willing to sell your current CPU and if you can sell it reasonably fast. But if you think you can, go ahead.

I was hoping to get responses from users with personal experience with the 1700X.

This was my plan, I figured I’d hold onto the 1600 and sell after the sales have ended.

I do not see the point at all of moving up to a 1700x. You will get the same performance in games. Do you need the additional cores truly? I mean the 1600 is really strong in Workstation tasks also. I would wait for Zen 2. It will be a few years off but at least you will get your moneys worth of the 1600.

I previously had an I7-2600(non-K) and was quite happy with it. My friend got into gaming and offered to buy it from me since his died. Thats when I made the move to Ryzen. Otherwise I would have stayed cause there wasnt a need to truly upgrade.

If you have the money then I guess you do you. It will just be a poor use of the money.

tbh you're just getting from an iphone 7 to an iphone 8... Nonsense... Better save your money for next gen or better gpu because it just wont improve your fps at most of the games

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...
