USB 3.1 type-c on cases, a rare thing?

Brammm

I've been looking for a new case for a long time and I'd really like one with USB 3.1 Type-C. But it seems like this interface just isn't catching on... I only see Lian Li and In Win implementing this...

I wanted this mainly because I really dislike the USB 3.0 header (and associated bulky, unwieldy connector), but as I understand, even if a case has the 3.1 style connector, it'll still have a 3.0 connector too?

next problem after finding a 3.1 ready case is finding a mobo with a 3.1 header as they are not to common...

and Type-C isn't that common except by apple that everybody jumps on it.

Be Quiet has now also implemented a USB Type C 3.1 Gen 2 port, on their Dark Base 700 case.

Nearly every newly released Android phone is USB type-c, including my Note 8. It seems easier to find a motherboard with the header nowadays, I know a lot of Asus boards have them.

yeah, but still type c for use like on flash drives and external hdds,it is not all that common, especially when looking at non tech-savy people. Enthusiats adopt faster new technology than the mainstream. and probably most of the "normal" people don't even know about type c.

USB seems to have taken up a confusing naming scheme recently that's so bad it actually seems intentional. USB 3.1 ins't a connector, it's just a USB spec revision and USB 3.1 actually has two sub-types. USB 3.0 has been superseded by USB 3.1 Gen1 and what was at first just USB 3.1 is actually USB 3.1 Gen 2. Gen 1 is basically just USB 3.0 and Gen 2 has increased bandwidth and new features. I've seen motherboard manufacturers advertising 10 or so USB 3.1 ports in the summary and marketing, but if you look at specs it's actually something like 8x 3.1 Gen 1 ports and only 2x 3.1 Gen 2.

USB Type C is the new connector and can technically be any USB revision, though it will most commonly be USB 3.1 Gen1 or Gen2.

I have no idea why they've arranged it like this. The USB 3.1 gen 1 and 2 naming makes it seem like it's deliberately confusing in order to be able to advertise 3.1 ports by using gen 1 ports, which are basically just USB 3.0. Just thought I'd make this clear before hand.

USB Type C is still new and 3.1 Gen 2 headers aren't that common yet, so it may take a while for it to become common on cases.

I do know EVGA's DG-87 and DG-86 cases have one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C port on them.

I again realised this fairly recently as my sister asked me what cable she needs as she got a Samsung S8. She thought it was a proprietary Samsung connector.

The lian li alpha 550 and alpha 330 both have it on the front. But like said a motherboard with the header is rare most have it just in the rear.

Problem with true Type C is that the power that needs to be delivered is typical 3A, 5A for EACH 3.1 connector.  MOST PSUs can't deliver this for one device in stand by.  Never mind multiple devices.
