Giving pc to brother, best way to set it up?

I'll be building my first water cooling custom loop in December, and giving my current gaming rig to my little brother as his first computer. 

 

I'm trying to think of the most painless way to do this. Since I've had it since the i72600k first came out, I've tinkered with settings and overclocks for cpu and my 970gtx getting everything just right. 

 

I would just reinstall windows 10 but i have a 8.1 disk and got the 10 update for free. 

 

What would you guys do, reinstall windows, or maybe just create his own account while I keep mine as an admin. Or some other alternative that I don't know about. (I'm 30 in my own apartment, my brother is 8 living with my mom) I just don't want him to go into something online and buy something on Amazon or w/e where my passwords are saved.

I would just revert the BIOS back to stock, GPU settings back to stock, uninstall apps you have there, create a new account for him and call that done. If you dont mind letting him be the system admin you can just reset Windows and BIOS.

Yeah, you got it right with the setting up an account for him, non admin... and leaving yours as admin.

why dont you just reset your browser

Totally reinstall windows, setup an admin account for you that only you have the password to (although windows password security is pitiful) and then make an account for him that does not have administrator privileges.

This way you don't have to worry about any of your data being compromised from your time using the computer and you can rest safe knowing he wont brick it by misusing admin privileges. And then if anything else goes wrong you have access to the admin account to fix something should you need to.

IMHO full format... It doesn't even take that much time. Yea, admin account and special for him makes sense, but let him install stuff... I'm pretty sure you don't want to go there every time he want something installed. you can always setup RDP, so you can install stuff remotely

I wouldn't give an 8 year old admin rights. I wouldn't give an 18 year old little brother admin rights. If anything, I'd revert to stock settings, password protect the BIOS and set a secondary account

18 yo without admin rights? You are funny man  It's not that BIOS password can be cleared and windows formatted.

Thanks for all the replies. My intention was to keep overclocks the same because it took me a long time to tweek it to stability. I suppose I could just take a screen shot in afterburner and re-download it after a reformat. Thanks for the bios password idea too, I've never shared my pc so I'm unaware of a lot of these security features.

In addition to my earlier comment. After setting up an account for him, make a backup system disk image of the drive. Then if anything goes wrong you can get it back to running state within 10 mins.

If you would rather wipe your stuff, then just do a windows resresh, that'll make it like a new install without too much trouble, then install drivers/updates etc.

 

If you wanna play it really safe, grab a cheap low memory USB drive, and a 64GB USB drive. put a bootable disk imager on the lower one, that acts as the interface to re-image the HDD should something go wrong. And with the other, save the disk image of the system on there... give both to your mom in case of emergency only. Then it's an easy enough fix if something goes awry.

Another side question for anyone. 

He will not have internet because my mom can't afford it for him yet in our area. 

 

My plan was to give him his own steam account and have him play games in offline mode. My question is, what's stopping me from downloading steam, logging into my account, unplugging it from internet and having my brother play offline on my account with all my games? 

 

When I build my new computer and log into steam, does steam have a hardware lock or something that would prevent me from logging in on an unrecognized computer? Would I have to unauthorized the other computer?

I stated in first post. I live by myself. 

My little brother lives with my mom in their own household that doesn't have internet
