Not, though undervolting can further reduce power draw. Think of voltage as force used to close a door. You close it with less force, the less wear it takes. Of course, if you close it too lightly you couldnt close it (in a graphics card the software crashes)

Hi guys,

I know what overvolting and clocking damages the electronics over time.

 

Is there some way that undervolting could cause any harm ? I've currently pulled all the sliders on MSI afterburner to the left. My thought is,cool and quiet gpu=longer lifetime ?? 

 

I only have a 1080p display with 120hz. So I didn't need all the performance power.

You could decrease the power bar to decrease its performance on purpose, it will make the card cooler... but you can not actually touch the voltages without flashing the GPU BIOS since those are locked on Pascal.

Because I already got this. And bought it for the same price as 1070 xD A guy I know wanted to get Strix instead, so he sold me this one cheap.

I've actually had multiple GPU's die on me, while I would still have use for them in terms of gaming.

8800 GTX (Bought new), GTX 560 (bought used), Radeon HD 6990 (bought used).

All 3 of them died on me. Now I'm on this one.

Why would I need  like 200 fps in GTA V? If 60 or 120 is enough with the underpowering? :PxD

Not quite correct. Sure you cant just enter an offset value and make it work like AMD cards, but the voltage/frequency curve does indirectly allow that.

Uhm. 8800 GTX lasted until 2013 I think, 560 GTX lasted until 2014, Radeon HD 6990 lasted until 2016.

So nothing very special?

AFAIK, the card is only clocking as high as it needs to.

 

that means if the GPU would need to clock up to 1600 MHz to get 200fps, it should stay well below that on its own when it only needs to do 60fps because you turn on VSync - no need to fiddle with any sliders

Well, apart from the GTX 560 all cards lasted reasonably long.

Actually it's a bit different than that.

In CSGO for example, it will boost up to 1900Mhz or so, and the usage will only be around 15-25%.

Instead of keeping the clocks and power down and keeping usage to 100% at a cooler stage xD It's a bit weird.

So now it's limited to 11-1200 MHz. Very cool. :ph34r:

8800 GTX (Bought new), GTX 560 (bought used), Radeon HD 6990 (bought used).

All 3 of them died on me. Now I'm on this one.

That's because of people using them for mining or not watching their temps.

Which is why you shouldn't buy used AMD GPUs.

To be fair the first 2 are NV. And 6990 came when the mining rush was starting  (first wave). High chances it wasn't even used for that. 

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

None of the cards were used for mining. I know the guys I bought them all from.
