GTX 1080 TI or 1080 to save money

I'm interested in playing games at really high frames on high to ultra settings & even 4k gaming. Would a 1080 be enough for me to get to save money or should i spend an extra 200 on a 1080 TI.

I will be getting a Ryzen 5 1600 or Ryzen 7 1700 with either an Asus B350 or X370 motherboard

If your doing 4k 1080ti, if your doing 1080p you can probably get away with a 1080 to save some money.

Main PC = I5 7600K @4.5ghz, Asus Gtx1070, 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz, 480GB SSD, Msi Z270 Mobo.

If you're playing at really high framerates I'd go with an Intel processor.

1080Ti wins in my books especially if you're going 4k. However if you don't know if you're going to play 4k games, maybe figure that out first.

Nah.

a 1700 is just fine. You won't be getting 160 fps at 4K with it but it'll be more than adequate for your needs.

and yes, if you're targeting 4K then go for 1080Ti.

at 4k, having ryzen doesn't matter, since the GPU is the bottleneck

If you are targeting high framerates and 4K, going for a 1080Ti isn't something quite as ridiculous  as it sounds at first.

When you are going for "dem best framerates" I had the most luck & long lasting experience with Intel CPU's.
While a 1700 is fine for gaming, but I'd go for Intel if you'd like to get that extra edge.

60fps @ 4K then GTX 1080 is adequate

He mentioned high refresh rates, so I'd say a 1080Ti would be he's better bet.

Ryzens low clockspeed becomes LESS of an issue as you increase your resolution, but if you care about PURE FPS then you want an Intel Chip, plain and simple.

depends on your preferences, if you just play the games you have today they will last you as long as the card runs for, newer games 2-4 years from now it just comes down to how low of a setting you are willing to go down to before you need to replace a card, technically some games can be played on the Intel Integrated graphics if you set the settings low enough.

I would, but it's up to you, if you game at 4k you won't really see any difference but at 1440p you will see some, whether it's enough to notice or not depends on the game and if you drop to 1080p over the years as games get harder to run then the clockspeed will be more important.

I bought a pair of 1080s for 700 bucks. Cheapest and best option. Could get you the same deal.

I got a bit lazy with my commenting. It is game dependent, @ 4K overwatch, CSGO, rocket league all hit above 140fps on a 1080.   Not to mention, that Op didn't say what refresh rate their monitor actually is.

Also should note that if you look at OP's commenting history, they may not even have a monitor yet.

I use a pair of 1080's on 1080p. Isnt overkill, barely enough actually. But its on 120hz monitors, average 100 frames so could turn the settings down or be real wasteful and get a pair of 1080ti's.

Sometimes = Trash and money out the window. Especially when there are games and programs that do not support SLI. Much better to just opt for a better Single GPU. Why buy a 2nd card for diminished return of atleast half it's power to in a setup that works "sometimes" ??? That's like buying Two of the same air conditioners, 2nd one works half as good as the first and it only works on "some" days

my first expose was (other people's) quad SLI's titan X build and i was like wtf

of course now i know better and a 1080ti is probably better and more efficient than those things but i half feel bad for the people who brought into that 3-4 years ago i think it was

Never played a game that doesn't support sli. Willing to bet a single 1080ti wont out perform my 1080's in the games I play either. Im sure some video says it does it stuff I don't care about. At the same time that would also mean the 980 I bought was better then a pair of titans which never happened. Even my old titans give better performance than a single 1080. But it depends on the games, I don't play indi crap so ill still to two cards until gpu's catch up to games/res.
