Steam no longer allows links for uncensor patches for games

From what I understand it's just going to move the links off steam so if the user wants the uncensored patches you'll still be able to find but you will have to search for them on other sites.

Never knew there were patches like that to begin with. Haven't played anything censored on Steam before.

They're typically for anime visual novels. Many would argue against Steam's move here because other games (Witcher 3) are able to be on Steam even though they show boobs in their game so why is are the stipulations so different for visual novels.

Gabe's answer in his AMA pretty much dodges the question, I wonder if they made the choice to ban links of this sort due the fact it probably doesn't help them generate any additional income and it could be a legality issue.

I don't see how this would or could cause them an issue. They sell games with sexual content and massive amounts of gore, but they can't handle a developer giving a link to an uncensored patch of a game whose clean version is available through Steam? Might as well give Doom and Wolfenstein censor bars and mosaics until id Software's patch is installed.

Eh, Idea Factory's method of censoring lewd scenes is so much better than the theoretical uncensored version anyways.

Yeah just checked Wallpaper engine's steam workshop and yep... There is ALOT of porn there. At least it's in it's own category

Yeah, I don't know why so many people are okay with intense violence but as soon as there is one nip slip, they want to censor it.

It would be interesting to know the reason for this as well. How open about nudity the public varies greatly from country to country. My guess is that it has to do with how influential different religions has been in different parts of the world.

Kind of insane that it's more OK to have someone mass murder people on TV than it is to show a someone change clothes without covering anything up. But that's the world we live in.

I think most younger people (under 35-30) doesn't really care about nudity nowadays. Hopefully one day we will realize that it's not a big deal at all.

I don't understand why Steam won't just create an 18/21+ NSFW filter and allow that kind of stuff on their store to begin with. Let those that want to see it, see it and let the others filter it out - I mean come on, they already have a nudity tag. There's a market for it, and seeing nudity doesn't hurt anyone. And if parents don't want their kids seeing it, they really shouldn't let their kid have an unrestricted account in the first place (though I don't know if restricted accounts exist). The idea that nudity, particularly fake cartoon/anime nudity, is "dangerous" is an absolutely idiotic notion that will hopefully go away in the coming decades as people get (marginally) more intelligent and/or desensitized.

 

At least they still allow you to get these patches off of 3rd-party websites; though if they didn't, that would essentially be banning specific types of mods, which would cause an insane amount of uproar and backlash.
