i7 8700 vs 8700k

Hi guys

How are you?

Noob here

My question is

Are there any reasons to get the k version if I'm not planning to mess with over clocking ever.

And what's exactly is the benifit/difference of over clocking over the turbo function that gets single and all core up to about 4.3-4.7 ghz

No gaming for now,  mostly non professional premiere photoshop etc...

besides future overclocking and a little bit of higher clocks, you gain nothing really

8700- 3.2 to 4.6

8700k- 3.7 to 4.7

.1 ghz isnt anything if you donjt wanna oc and save cash

I mean some people can push the 8700k to 5.3GHZ so it is quite a big improvement if you do OC

However if you don't do any OC, it's perfectly fine to go non-k

Plain and simple a non-overclocked i7-8700k will perform the exact same as the i7-8700. If you overclock the i7-8700k you can see decent performance gains (probably 5% in certain programs that utilize the CPU's full power), but this means you will need to invest in a Z370 motherboard and higher-end cooling.

If you don't intend to OC then get the i7-8700, get a cheaper B350 motherboard (when they become available as they are not yet released), and a mid-range air cooler like the Cryorig H7 or the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. That alone would probably save you over $120.

Now this all being said all 6 core CoffeeLake CPU's are basically not in stock anywhere so expect to wait a few months to get one. I am on a waitlist for an i7-8700k and was told to wait anywhere from 2-4 months...

You should just save money and get an R5 1600/X in that case, it'll do the job just fine, and it'll still do AAA games just fine.

Are you building a new PC? If so what budget/country and what's your monitor set up?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I guess I'll go for the 8700 ?

Ryzen gets you a tier better GPU from the money saved, which is going to be fine for 60hz gaming....did you already but the PC then?

Here's a parts like but I have no idea where you  buy stuff from or how the pricing translate.

if an RX 580 8GB is the same as a 1060 6GB go for that if you don't want a higher end GPU

I would buy the K version even if you don't OC

3 reasons :

1 - higher clock stock

2 - possibility to OC in 3-5 years or when needed

3 - Better resell value, some people will look for that K to have an OC'able CPU

Check out the 8600k benchmarks. It might perform just as well, can't remember but it was close, and that chip is much cheaper.
