Creating Content Without Voice

Hi there,

 

For a long time i'm thinking about making YouTube videos about tech, but i tried to record my voice and quickly i found out that in my opinion my voice isn't really something to be in a video and i also found out that i have an extremely background noise and i did many attempts to fix this including with the help of many friends and we we're able to decrease the noice but it was still irritating loud, we tried many things like software, configurations and putting things in front of my pc in order to prevent my pc being the background noise. All of this didn't work so for a long while i was thinking to make videos WITHOUT recording my voice and just edit little text messages in the video in order to still explain the neccessary things to the viewer and prevent their ears from dying from my background noise.

 

My question is the following, is it still relevant to make videos WITHOUT recording your voice in 2017 ?

I have the exact same problem. I would try something like in Extra Credits (great channel and great example) where they edit the voice to be high and sound better with the visuals.

@TurbulentWinds no for me its more, voice or no voice thats why i wanna know if it would still be relevant, i also forgot to say that my main language is dutch and im quite good in english but my accent isn't my strongest side from english.

Nope. You could use a voice modulator though.

It's definitely a thing you can do, but to be honest, I wouldn't. 
In my opinion, these videos without any form of voice recording feel sort of distant and non-immersive...

But if you do it in a new, innovative way, it might be better than the "usual" voice-less videos you see...

@Drak3 I looked for multiple voice modulator's but in my opinion they aren't really good and still sound more like extremely bad coded computers then someone tries to explain something

No voice would not be great. Just a tip, crank up the speed of your videos in editing to make you seem like you know what you are doing. I love when people do that, and I hate slow speakers (always have youtube on 2x speed, wish there was a 4x option).

Modulate your voice by adding base/treble/etc. so that you find it good enough to watch a video without muting it.

@Himommies Yes, i already said that i putted things in front of my pc to prevent my pc being the background noise, i also closed my window and my room door, putted in each corner something and also closing the curtains but nothing helped, i also tested it on different days and different hours to make sure that the noise wasn't coming from my brother who lives upstairs or my neigbors

<Crazy Idea> Rather than trying to block sound or fix it in post, try to make the computer more quiet so that there's less noise in the first place. </Crazy Idea>

@AshleyAshes my pc is already extremely quite but i tried to putting things in front of it just to make sure it wasn't coming from my pc, the background noise is also when i turn off my pc and record my voice with my phone or laptop wich is 99% quite.

For some reason I thought OP was live streaming

You can do some post editing with Ozone and that'll quite nicely clean it up.you can also use some free vst's.I recommend a low pass for sure and maybe a high pass if necessary,Put some Notch filters and maybe a expander if it sounds a bit janky

In some early Markiplier multiplayer videos, his friend Bob used a voice modulator as a joke. Sounded like Butters.

 

I'm also addressing purely the first aspect of OP's post. As far as background noise goes, I'd need to know a tad more before being able to offer any realistic help.

i would not recommend using text to explain the content of the video, if i come across a video like this i just go find a new one straight away because, like a lot of other people, youtube is on a side monitor/computer while I'm doing something else, so I'm not going to be happy if I'm required to read in a video. If you're not willing to talk or fix your audio issue, then don't make videos.

Depends on content you are going to do. Some more artistic style videos don't need any commentating track. Most gaming videos are better with just good music and maybe overlaid text. But anything with more explaining required, you really need to talk. I wouldn't watch more than 10s video made with text-to-speech.

Buy a decent microphone and use video editing software that'll allow you to remove background noise. You'll need both for a good result.
