So then what do you suggest I upgrade to?

upgrade ur ram with the same kit as u currently got

get an ssd

for the rest? change nothing

 Hello,

I was thinking about my build:

-CPU: Intel Core i7 6700k Overclocked to 4.6GHz

-Mobo: MSI Gaming M5 Z170A

-RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB DDR4 2133MHz

-Storage: Two WD Blue HDDs

-PSU: EVGA 600w Semi-Modular 80+ Bronze

-GPU: Asus GTX 1080 Strix - Boost Clock at 2068MHz and Memory Clock at 11010 MHz

-CPU Cooler: Corsair H55 AIO Water Cooler

Which I was considering adding another GPU and more RAM, but are my CPU and Motherboard too low end? Maybe I should upgrade to something like an X99 and an Intel 7820X? Kind of confused here.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Upgraded to 32GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM, and a 240GB SSD for boot.

They should be fine, but do consider upgrading to a z270 with a 7700k

Thanks!

I understand the desire here, but unless you're running multiple 4k monitors... what is your goal here? Your set up, while perhaps lacking in a cheap solution such as adding additional RAM, is pretty damn solid and I can't imagine there's much out there you can't max out? In my opinion, your CPU and Motherboard are very nice.

Why change the motherboard when a BIOS update will let you drop a 7700K in just fine?

What? No. Just because you don't have the latest and greatest, doesn't mean that your current setup is by any means bad.

You're fine. If you're really chomping the bit for an upgrade, go with Coffee Lake. The PSU should be fine.

My suggestion?

Add more ram 2x8GB DDR4 2400 (or higher freq)

Add an SSD (250gb or more)

Another GTX 1080 if you really need it to play at high res and ultra settings or multiple 4k monitors

Better PSU 850W or higher

PSu should be fine? are you sure 600W is enough for 2 1080s?

Where are you seeing 2 1080s? Oh... Wow. Yeah, it would be better to sell the 1080 and get a 1080 ti rather than trying to SLI because lower power use and you will actually be able to use the extra power in most games.

dont mix ram kits... ever  even if their higher frequency they can downclock but u dont know if the actual SPD of the mhz below is the exact same of the other kit... why in the heck u recommend him higher freq ram then he already has... even ram experts and tweakers get issues running 2 different kits somtimes... even if all the timings are equal

add another 1080gtx? REALLY? sli doesnt scale on the newer cards

850watt PSU? OR HIGHER?? WTF???   he will never need somthing like that and getting too high watts is actually bad and makes ur psu less efficient

what is this bullshit xD

I didn't mean to say add more Ram and mix it with his current sticks. He was thinking of adding another gtx 1080 and yes it doesn't scale on the newer cards but that depends on which game he wants to play. If he does add another gtx 1080 then an 850 psu should be fine. You need a hug? You seem hangry.

no, its not worth the money and its a waste of money

and since he already got 2133mhz ram its just fine

also ram is cas/mhz ratio related not just speeds

He currently has 8gb. That is ok for gaming but if he plans on streaming and have other programs open while gaming, then I suggest 16gb.

8gb is actually not ok for gaming depending on what game u play, u wont be able to properly run bf1 with that for example . u already need 16gb for gaming these days

also streaming doesnt eat much ram at all, it doesnt make much difference, however having 50tabs on chrome will eat alot of ram but thats just plain logic

16gb is recommended for any high end rig ( example hes 6700k with a 1080gtx ... )
