I'd lean more towards the MBP also if I were you, I'm also in the Apple eco-system and own a 2016 MBP (2.9 i7, 460 Pro, 1TB).

As they've been out for a while now, check the refurb section of the Apple website and see if you can pick up a better spec model for the same price. A 512Gb drive will give you more flexibility in the long term if you want to do a Windows partition and/or VMs.

You can also pick up any TB3 eGPU enclosure down the road with MacOS supporting them natively now too. Currently awaiting GeForce 10xx series OS X drivers though current Radeon cards are supported.

I've never owned a Blade, although, did have a Blade Pro with the 1080 for over a month. I couldn't stand the constant whirr of the fans and during load or gaming it sounded like a jet and got seriously warm. I've used MacBook Pros since 2008 and never had an issue with one breaking down on me, if it did though I wouldn't worry too much about getting it fixed under warranty unlike a Razer product.  MacBooks also hold their value ridiculously well...

How soon do you see this happening, and do you think it would be worth the wait?

Not sure, but I did see a geekbench score on it.

My main concern is the limit of 16GB of RAM. Both choices have that limit. With the amount of tabs, apps and containers I have open, I rarely have 16GB free on my current mac.

On top of that, I'd be keen to understand the battery difference on running the UDH vs FHD versions of the Razer screen.

I’d say MacBook Pro given your use case.

Cannot recommend any Razer laptop due to their subpar quality for the price they’re charging.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the market for a new laptop and I'm having trouble deciding between these two machines I see pros and cons for each but I want to here what y'all think I should do. I'm considering in between the 15 inch macbook pro and the 4k razer blade.

Here are the specs of the two I'm considering:

15 inch Macbook Pro

  Reveal hidden contents

Touch Bar and Touch ID
2.8GHz Processor
256GB Storage

  • 2.8GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD storage1
  • Radeon Pro 555 with 2GB memory
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • Touch Bar and Touch ID

Razer Blade

  Reveal hidden contents

The New Razer Blade - 4K UHD - 512GB

  • 4K UHD
  • 512GB
  • Quad-Core 7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Processor with Hyper-Threading 2.8GHz / 3.8GHz (Base/Turbo)
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR5 VRAM)
  • 16GB dual-channel onboard memory (DDR4, 2400MHz)

Macbook Pro

Pros:

1. I like macOS

2. I'm already in the apple ecosystem with my phone, and my air.

3. I love the way it looks and the touch bar.

4. I love how it has future proof ports.

5. My school is mainly on Macs, so it works well with that.

6. Great support, I can just take it to my local apple store.

 Cons:

1. Expensive for hardware

2. Lesser graphics

3. Not a variety of ports

4. Thermal Throttles

5. Not touch screen

6. Price

Razer Blade

Pros:

1. Better graphics

2. Touchscreen

3. Looks very nice

4. More than one type of port.

5. Runs windows which means greater program compatibility.

6. Works with external graphics cards.

7. RGB

 Cons:

1. Not as tightly integrated with my phone.

2. Only one thunderbolt three port.

3. Not as good of support

4. No imessage or any other apple service.

Well you never mention it's use.  While the Macbook vastly under powered and overpriced buying a Mac has some merits whether you agree with Apple/OSX in general since Apple computers retain so much of their value.  Point being I bought a $1900 MBP 13" this year and killed it with a can of Coke, yet I still somehow manged to sell it, while notifying the buyer of the situation for $500.  I am not sure what kind of computer your can fry all the chips and still get back over 25% off what you paid for back.  I have also sold 3-5 year old systems for 30%-40% of their original price while PCs I could barley get people to take for basically nothing.

But if resale value doesn't matter and you just want power/specs and do game than the Razer Blade will be fine, but I personally have some reservations about the system.  one being the massive bezels.  2nd the overheating and warranty.  Razer isn't known for their customer service while Apple has world class CS and the fact the have a store basically everywhere now makes fixing or troubleshooting easy as long as it's under warranty since out of warranty Apple products are extremely expensive and nearly impossible to repair for basic consumers.

While all your pros for a Mac are really valid and I personally enjoy OSX over Windows and love the integration w/ iOS the value prospective is so off for me.  I disagree that the Touchbar is useful and the TB3 ports don't make the system future proof since the computer will be stuck with a 7th gen processor and soldered on RAM and HD and honestly I think Apple jumped the gun, we are still 2 to maybe even 3 years away from computers living in this TB3/US3 utopia Apple dreams of.

A Gigabyte Aero or a Dell XPS 9560 are hands down my picks for Mac alternatives due to their great battery, dedicated GPU, thin designs, priced lower than a Mac, and the warranty for a Dell while not Apple good is better than Razer's.  Another thing to keep in mind is 8th gen CPU.  Once these get released for all the systems you could get a steal on a 7th gen.  If you are sold on these two systems and need this for college go for the Mac and get Applecare, since your bound to have someone drop it or spill beer on it and after college you can sell it for a third of what you paid for it or use it for the next 2-3 years.
