I was wondering if anyone knew any good guides to building something that would run software like Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion, and Keyshot.  I want to build something but it would be more on a budget. I was aiming around $750USD but I can budge if I need to. 

 

As far as I know so far, CPU with a good core count is good as well as good amount of RAM.  I could be wrong, this is why I am asking.

I personally primarily use my main computer for cad as well, it is overkill but you are correct, a good 4-6 core processor is a good option and depending on the level of designs you do 16GB of RAM should be enough. Cad files in use can take up lots of RAM though, so if you have multiple designs open at once you may need 32GB, for now start with 16GB.

 

What currency do you use? As $750 is a hard budget to stretch and RAM prices are high currently.

Yeah, Ryzen is the way to go.

With your GPU, I suggest that you go with a  Geforce card. (Unless you need the double point precision) You will be able to afford a much better card.

you don't need a monster to run those programs at completely perfect performance. they don't do much rendering which is the thing that actually takes power in production workloads. you could be on a 8 year old system and it would run okish

Okay so it is a slight stretch on the budget but to at least get a decent CPU, a 6 core R5 1600, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 1050 Ti, I think its worth the extra dollars spent. This way you have a strong 6 core CPU that will help a lot in productivity, and it has a good CPU cooler included too. 16GB is the lowest I would go on the RAM anyway, and I also added a m.2 drive for OS and program files, with a 1TB HDD for mass storage. I think this would be a great build for cad. With plenty of room for upgrades down the road as well. The B350 MB means you can overclock if you'd like, and I added an extra case fan as the case only comes with one so you keep your thermals in check. You can save some money by downloading a cheap windows 10 license, I just added it to the list to give you an idea.

You are correct. Even an old system will do well, the only thing that could bottleneck performance to an extreme would be not having enough RAM.

I'm using Fusion 360 on a Haswell-core Xeon E3-1230V3 with 16GB RAM and it's perfectly fine. Granted, I haven't really worked on very complex models yet, but in my experience it really doesn't use all that much CPU, unless you are actually rendering locally, but it does use quite a lot of RAM.
