Ryzen 7 build

matrix07012

I'm going to get Ryzen build. I think it's fine, but I still wanted to ask, because I'm unsure which 1080 should I get. SSD isn't there, because I'm going to reuse my current one.

For silence, go for a fanless power supply, add a solid state drive for sure, set the HDD to shut off whenever you're not using it (perhaps suspend it in air with strings to block vibrations).

Cases don't do much for silence, but they're good to have.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Just letting you know that you'll be told to get the 1700 over the 1700x.

EDIT: well I took too long writing this but I nailed it. Be happy with your 1700x!

As far as the 1080 is concerned. What I did when buying my 1080 Ti was skimming through reviews getting a general idea of the market and figuring out noise and cooling where the two main features that seperated the boards. It came down to EVGA ASUS and MSI. ASUS and EVGA being the best and MSI being my purchase since it was on sale for $80 off.

If you have a hard time making a decision, you can't go wrong with the ASUS Strix

Get the R7 1700 and save some money and get a 250GB SSD for a windows boot drive for storing the OS and some games/other programes. Could invest in a better GPU like the 1080ti, there will bea noticable performance improvement over the 1080 when it comes to gaming. Get an X370 motherboard that has better VRMs for overclocking. Get a Noctua cooler, they are quite and good value for money.

He has an SSD, the price diffrence between the 1700x and the 1700 does not equal the price of a 250GB SSD or the jump from a 1080 to a 1080 TI.

x370 MB and Noctua cooler is great advice though.

I'm hoping to get a higher binned chip with the 1700X and the difference here is like $8 between the 1700X and the 1700.

Silence isn't my goal. I just like the design of the case.

$8 wouldn't get me a new SSD and I've already got one. The price difference here between a 1080ti and a 1080 is $500 so no.

The difference is negligible tbh. Iirc 25% or so of 1700s can do 4 ghz whereas 34% or so 1700xs can do it

no but the subtraction of the price of the CPU in addition to the subtraction of a required cooler would make the choice more palatable to go 1080ti.

well a 1080 is a 1080. Doesn't really matter what you buy, they all behave the same at the top end.

The Noctua NHD15 is a great cooler and it also doesnt cost much. The ASUS board looks good, there is lots of storage expandability and plenty of IO. I would recommend it, good VRMs, it also supports AM4 coolers, so thats a bonus.

C6H+NH-D15 will give you the best OC on air as far as I can tell the ASRock Taichi is the "theoretical winner" but on air the OC will be virtually equal. Many thanks to advice given to me by @dave_k @DocSwag and @PCGuy_5960

Taichi is cut down compared to C6H.

You can not feel any OC performance difference on conventional cooling between Crosshair and Taichi because they use the same components (exactly).

Taichi has just more of them, but it makes no real difference.

I'd rather pick more feature packed Crosshair

Remember, all records were broken on C6H xD

Get ready for the comments indicating that the 3000 Mhz RAM on a B350 board will not match up well - and that you may as well pay less for a simpler set of RAM.

Technically the power delivered will be cleaner just because there's more phases :P.

I agree though, for anyone except extremely extreme OCers the Crosshair is a better board.
