  1. The massive amount of airflow would be going through the heat sink, assuming I sealed it well enough. It wouldn't need to run at max speed but I think the fan header is good for about 1A. Is the cheapest possible fan from aliexpress going to be anything other than a printed picture and a triple A battery? I'd be soldering the older connector to the new fan wires, very important or else it wouldn't spin. I don't think there is any risk involved there though.
  2. I've got a buddy who's laptop is pretty toasy, can't run for more than 30 minutes before it shuts down. And no wonder since his fan doesn't spin. He's got nothing to lose here as he's either going for a new one or let me frankenfix it for cheap. (Replacement fans are weirdly expensive as they have to be imported and with the tax and toll fee it's gonna be over 100 USD) Now I think I got a solution. I'm going to remove the old fan, drill holes or just make a cutout in the bottom cover for a 120mm cheapo fan and mount it on the outside. Then I'll have to put some legs on the thi
  3. I found this post after receiving my bottle and reading that it's not dishwasher safe, so I wanted to see if there was any type of soap that would be recommended or warned against as the bottle is designed to hold hot liquid hot it's not a temperature issue.
  4. I mean, the link was right there. If you want I can take a guess at what OS you use and provide you with 2 fewer clicks https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LCD Monitors/Utility/MultiFrame_1_1_1_1.zip
  5. https://www.asus.com/Monitors/MG278Q/HelpDesk_Download/ Had the same issue with my PG279Q, I think I just installed the software for it and it worked.
  6. The only demanding thing I'll be doing on the laptop is some light gaming. Could the SMT possibly be a drawback in that regard? (I don't think it can be disabled on the mobile series) If the games don't take advantage of SMT I assume the cpu will boost so the performance will be at least as good as on the 4700U, and then a little better because of the better GPU, though how much I don't know.
  7. Looking at the Yoga Slim7 4700U and 4800U They come in the same package and have a few differences listed at the bottom. The specs seem like slight improvements in performance for 15% higher price . However the potential battery savings with the lower base clock and larger storage alone gives some justification for the price lift. Would the performance in real life use be noticable though? They both have 16GB of 4266 MHz LPDDR4X SDRAM I understand this is a boon for the iGPU especially 1TB SSD vs 512GB S
  8. I'm wondering if 4x https://www.gskill.com/product/165/326/1562840211/F4-3600C16D-32GTZNCTrident-Z-NeoDDR4-3600MHz-CL16-19-19-39-1.35V32GB-(2x16GB) would work with https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/TRX40-AORUS-MASTER-rev-10#kf I see the same sticks ( I understand the GTZNC are very good with ryzen) in quad sets are listed as working with the motherboard but this is because you need 4 or 8 slots populated at a time right? Is the "buy the full kits" concept a thing of the past?
  9. I suppose I could use the money I save buying the cheaper NAS to buy one of those big 860 QVO drives
  10. Footage will be 20-40Mbps. NLE? What software I'll be using? I'll be using hitfilm
  11. Would the DS420J work for sub 4k video editing? If anyone has any experience with it or the ability to tell just by looking at it's specs ( 1.4Ghz Quad-core, 1GB ram) Thinking 4x 14TB drives in Raid 5
  12. Things have changed, I am now allowed to wire the place. For anyone who is interested I am going with an edgerouter 12p a few PoE AP's and a cloud key 2 (in case of power outages). All going well it will be fire and forget. ( I got the other tenants convinced and so the landlord caved and I'm hooking up 4 apartments with wifi and getting additional wired connections for my place)
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm beginning to understand why I keep finding issues with every model I read about now.
