I think the high demand for 1060 - 1070 or even 1080 level cards and the resulting price hike has made super high-end cards (1080 Ti) more appealing, relatively speaking.

on amazon you can sometimes find a 1080 for 500$ i think thats the best card for value currenlty, only if you have it close to 500$

Are you asking about new or used cards?
Because sometimes a card like a 980ti (about 1070 performace) can sell for a lot less than a 1070 used.

Mig-High would be 1060 6gig and RX580

High would be 1070 and 1080

Is 1060 6GB really a good value though.  It's only like 10% more efficient than the 3GB version.  Yet the 3GB version is just over $200 while the 6GB version is $300.  I know that no good options exist in the $300 range due to the GTX 1070 being pushed up, but I'd put that extra $90 somewhere else regardless

The extra 3GBs of Vram makes a good difference in games with molts of textures and addons and is more "Futureproof"

 

Also from what I know isn't the 3GB version actually a bit gimped performance wise compared to the 6GB?

The recent spikes in graphics card pricing made the value proposition [as of now] low/mediocre in the time being for what you get over the relatively high end cards... Mainly the 1060/1070 [nvidia's] have been affected badly afaik. 1080/1080Ti not so.

afaik the performance difference from what I heard is 10%... the 3GB version just has a few more cores disabled over the 6GB variant.

1050Ti or 1060 perhaps? V56 and 1070 are good cards but are either overpriced/unavailable. High end - 1080(technically mid end, but who cares) or even the 1080Ti(if you can get some good deals).

This! V64 was so overpriced that I got myself a 1080Ti.
