Is there a way to deny program's access to C: Drive?

I'm a student and at times I need to install some fairly terrible programs in order to do my homework, but I don't want them accessing my C: or D: drives. I install them to my  H: Drive which is a 500GB HDD that I use for all kinds of rubbish, unlike my C: and D: Drives that are SSDs on which I'd like to minimize the write and reads. Some programs create pretty big cache files (5-30GB) that clog my tiny 256GB C: Drive. Is there a way to deny access from those shit programs? I just want to make them stay on my docked HDD that I take out when I don't need.

I'm not sure what programs to recommend - but have you considered setting up a virtual PC for these apps?  Sounds like the perfect solution if all other system requirements are met. It'll prevent unwanted disk access as well as leaving a potential mess in the registry on your host PC.

How did I not think about VMs?! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll do that.
