I would go for 1070 because your only gaming on 1080p which would easily get over 60fps on ultra plus even if you get a 4K panel the 1070 is still a good 4K card

Indeed if you are looking for long term or your going to be gaming in 4K then I guess you could get a 1080

Depends how. 400 bucks vs. 500? Yes.

Think in %.

GTX 1080 has arouznd 22-26% more Performance over a GTX 1070, depending on resolution.

How much more % is the price?

In germany for example, most GTX 1070 cost 430-470+€, while a GTX 1080 already start at 498€. So absolutely not worth even considering a 1070 anymore, sadly.

But if you pay around 25% more price, for 25% more performance, yes it's absolutely worth. You can NOT have enough GPU power. Period. Everyone who claims otherwise, doesn't know how to use Settings ;-)

There is literaly ALWAYS a Way to bring a GPU down to it's knees. Even a Titan Xp when you have a 1080p 60 Hz Display, you can bring it down.

Simply use DSR in x4.00 (4k downsampling).

The better question is:

1. What Monitor do you use? Or want to buy?

2. rest of system? if you have a AMD FX 4100, it's a little different story compared to an i7 7700k / Ryzen 5/7

save the money and get a 1070, you won't see much benefit with 1080 imo

Thanks for your Answer^^

That sounds good.. Do you plan on playing mostly competetive shooters?

If your Monitor is a more expensive G-Sync variant, i would instead recommend a 1440p Variant: Dell S2416dg. Having G-Sync can be really godlike sometimes :)

And 30% less fps is absolutely worth trading in (or similar fps, but High settings, instead Ultra) if you have much sharper 1440p insetad 1080p. You really can see the difference :)

And for the i7 7700k: I would NOT recommend this CPU anymore at all. No reason to get it tbh.

Ryzen 7 is at least on par, as long the software is well optimized - and future software WILL be optimized better. What's important is, how the CPU handles todays and future software, and not how it handles 5 year old bad optimized software.

There will be games where an i7 7700k will be able to get a few more fps, but Ryzen 5 1600/Ryzen 7 1700 will still have more than plenty fps for a smooth gameplay.

And if you use G-Sync (which i highly recommend), you won't notice any difference, if the Game runs in 130 fps, or 118 fps~

And 2nd: No reason to get an Quad Core CPU today, if the 6-Core i7 8700K is coming out in 1-2 Months~. I would rather wait for that.

Better CPU, sligthly better Single Core performance, +50% Multicore performance. Despite only 6 cores, with a high Clock speed similar Multithread performance, as a non-OCed Ryzen 7 1700 8-Core.

So yea, i would either get a Ryzen (for the Future), or wait for Coffee Lake with 6 Cores. Also, for the Future.

Edit: However: Even in 1080p, if you go for 144 Hz, a GTX 1080 is NOT overpowered. And if you go Ultra settings you will struggle hard, to keep 144 fps.

As long the CPU can keep up in those high fps ranges.
Which means, you will also get 20-25% more fps from a GTX 1080 over a GTX 1070, and there will be no fps lost (except in games like CS:GO)
