"ISPs Say They Will Block KickassTorrents Without a Court Order"

Several of the world’s largest recording labels will next week recommence legal action to have file-sharing sites blocked in Ireland. The first case, against popular torrent site KickassTorrents, is scheduled for the High Court on Monday. Several ISPs are listed as respondents but in a sign that they are prepared to accept the almost inevitable, other providers have given assurances to the labels that they will block the site without being forced to do so by the court.

Whatever your view on piracy is, just throw that aside for a few seconds. Internet censorship is never a good thing, no matter what the site involved is. So that's obviously a bad thing, but they're also not even going through the courts to do this. This is going on in Ireland, but I wouldn't be surprised if other nations started to do the same. I'm sure Britain already has KAT blocked though (correct me if I'm wrong).

Thoughts on this?

And now I will introduce you to my 3 best friends:

I think blocking obviously pirate orientated websites is fine, they go through a proper court process in the UK stops the average joe from pirating

This is the reason piracy and torrents is flourishing: it becomes clearer and clearer of a choice as govts controlled by big media oppress internet more and more

Regarding your special friends. There was this guy a few months ago that was caught doing a huge Bitcoin scam and he was trying to hire a hitman to kill one of his employees. He was also using Tor, and it seems that more than half of the hubs that Tor uses were FBI controlled.

Source for the info? One of the Tek shows on Tek Syndicate youtube channel.

Yeah, it's not what's in TOR but who's exit node it comes out through.

Banning obvious pirate torrent databases is justified but also quite pointless, anyone savvy will use one of the BAZILLION proxies (complete with monetized ads making good cash out of all the new traffic fresh from the courtroom)

Anyway torrents are for noobs and web peasant pirates, glorious Usenet master race!

I recommend

If I remember the story correctly (please correct me if I am wrong), the guy was caught because he asked on stackoverflow how he could take advantage of some backdoor (I'm not saying that there is such a backdoor, although you have to admit that this is very suspicious) in Tor, and made that thread using his OWN REAL NAME. He modified the user name in less than a minute, but the feds already got his name.

What I am trying to say is that between the fact that some of the exit hubs for Tor are FBI controlled (proven fact) and the fact that people are asking about how to use certain backdoors in Tor (again, I'm not saying that they exist, I'm just saying that it gives me a reason to pause) I don't advise anyone to use it.

Sorry for the off-topic!
