X370 Support for Zen 2

Do you guys think it's possible that X370 motherboards will support Zen 2? I read somewhere that AMD expects AM4 as a platform to still be relevant for at least 2 years more, so maybe X370 could be able to support Zen 2, like Z170 supports Kaby Lake, or as Bristol Ridge motherboards support Zen.

Yes it's going to support Zen 2. All AM4 boards will

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Well, I hope so. I'm probably about to get a 1600 with an X370 mobo and it would be nice to have an extended upgrade path, I also read that Zen 2 will be faster and more power efficient than current Ryzen chips (and XFR will actually work!!!). If it's true, then upgrading from a 1600 to a hypothetical 2700X would be awesome.

Why would you change that CPU?This am4 upgrade path is pretty pointless unless you buy a new CPU every generation (in which case a new motherboard wouldn't hurt your budget) and those who switch from Zen 1 to Zen 3 will basically put a new CPU on a 4 year old motherboard that might die any moment, not to mention you'd probably use that CPU for another 3-4 years in which case your motherboard would be 7-8 years old, where would you find a new motherboard for a 6 years old platform?

I will upgrade if I feel that it's needed, and Zen 2 is planned to be released next year, so it's very unlikely for a motherboard to degrade in such a small amount of time, specially if you're a moderate user who is careful not to push the limits. Also, PCBs and power delivery components are now quite more efficient than 5 years old products, so I expect current motherboards to last at least a bit longer than its predecessors, let's say 5 years until noticeable degrading effects (for light users).

And that's why "upgrade path" everyone talks about is bullsh!t, those who upgrade from Zen 1 to Zen 3 will basically gamble so it won't be any different from buying Intel's CPU and changing a motherboard.

That is likely but not a guarantee look at AM3 to AM3+ what if they make a AM4+ and you can only use the old CPU in a new board? o3o

I hope this time to be different, I believe AMD said that the socket won't change in a few years.

But I didn't mention Zen 3, that's +2 years ahead, while Zen 2 is expected to be released in less than a year, probably Q2 2018.

And 5 years from now is a pretty good lifespan, 2022 or 2023. I have a Celeron on an ASRock from 2005 in my garage and I bet it's still working at then's standards, but the GPU died in 2013 and the whole PC hasn't been used since then. So around 7 freaking years of service for that system, I imagine 5 years should be a piece of cake for current components.

I hear a lot of speculation and "yes man" answers here, but I don't see anybody posting any links to fact based data sources to back this up. I know that Ryzen 2 has factually been stated to be supported on the current AM4 boards, but I have not seen a single instance of anybody stating, AMD or board partner, that Zen 2 7nm will be. If you have some information on that which isn't common knowledge, please feel free to post a link and share that information with the rest of us. Folks I've talked to at TH, Anandtech and Guru3d all claim (And these guys work with AMD, Intel, and the board partners, regularly.) that they have no verification either way yet on the 7nm chips. I'm calling all these "yes" answers pure speculation until somebody shows me something concrete.

No, X370 is AMD. Intel is Z370 and soon to be Z390. X399 is AMD's HEDT platform.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Not sure what exactly you mean (necro? This is like a time capsule.).Anyway, upgrading from Zen 2 to Zen 3 is pretty dumb.Upgrading from Zen 1 to Zen 3 is now impossible with first gen motherboards and that's why AMD won't get a cent from me as long as I'm alive.

Yeah but zen 1 to zen 2 is a pretty big upgrade, especially since you can potentially 4x your cores. I don't understand why this would mean you will never buy an AMD CPU ever? Intel pulls this shit every 2nd gen
