Today i bought a windows key from a relatively trusted source. I installed windows 10 on my new pc and put in the activation key. At the time i was not connected to the internet so there was no error code yet. Later on while i was tuning the settings of my pc i noticed an error message that my key had been used on an other pc and i need to buy a legit one from the store.

I installed windows on my pc using a usb tool. Could there be a problem if my tool was made for windows 10 pro and i activated windows home?

Is there possibly something i did wrong or something i can do to fix this or do i just have to admit i was scammed? (for 20 euros)

Also if you know any working way to get a new key for free let me know because i´m out of money atm.

If you installed Pro and tried to use a Home key, that's your issue.

You can try and search Activation in the search bar and if your windows isnt activated it should give you an option to input your code. Other wise you can do mocrosoft phone activation and that should resolve it. Just make sure that when they ask you on the phone if the code has been used on any other devices just say "NO" straight up, don't complicate it anymote because then they will be very reluctant to help you

Yeah, you can't activate windows pro with a home key.

You need to use the right windows version.

That probably shouldn't be discussed here on the forums in more depth.

Why? Is it because I mentioned the activator name?

No. You need the key for Windows 10 Pro. You can't use it for Windows Home.

You got cheated... go back to the store you bought it and tell them the key isn't legit. So that they provide another key or give you a refund...

Else you could call MS support and try to get them to make that key free to use again.

Contact place where you purchased it from. Tell them It has been used and ask for a new one. Or Alternatively contact Microsoft and tell them about your problem.

A trusted source is a retailer like Amazon, Newegg, or Microsoft. If it was one of those grey market dealers then you didnt buy from a trusted source.

Talking about Piracy is not allowed in the context you were discussing. All that is allowed is a general discussion, no specifics on how to commit the crime.

Thanks for letting me know. ;)

MS support probably won't help you since it sounds like grey market key. They will see its OEM or volume key. In both cases you as an end user wouldn't be one to contact them about such issue. It would be the party that sold you the system. Ofc if you want to be dishonest, thats your own choice to make.
