The most straight forward naming scheme we've had. Architecture, key spec that differentiates the SKUs.

Not really, and the only issue stems from the possibility that there is a VEGA refresh or new SKUs are added with 56 or 64 SKUs. But even then, AMD can add a single/dual/etc. letter suffix denotating higher and lower power versions.

So GN and some others dropped vids... Vega 56 is $400, $500 for vega 64 and vega 64 aqua is $600

Gamers Nexus confirmed a couple of important points by talking to AMD engineers.

-Tile Based Rasterizer was disabled in FE in order to rush it out of the door for Q2 launch

-New power saving tech was disabled in FE in order to rush it out the door for Q2 launch

What's disappointing is that AMD is playing fast and loose with the TDP numbers claiming "Oh TDP is x number.....but if you add the board and why wouldn't you is actually much bigger Y number"

Can't say I'm happy with this. The Radeon packs piqued my interest but the options are so limited. Barring the monitor u can just get a Ryzen 7 1700 and a cheaper mono and nullify those savings if not get it for cheaper. I guess it's a difference if u really want those games at launch...

I want to see real world gaming as $499 isn't bad if you are going to water cool in a custom loop anyways.

For those in Australia, based on conversion rates, the air cooled 64 will be in the same price range as the 1070.  The liquid 64 will be the same as the 1080 and the 54 will be more than the 1060 but cheaper than the 1070.

I'm happy about the Vega 56, for only $400 it's a pretty sweet deal. I honestly love the design, but the packs are mostly designed for those going for a 64 edition. Oh well, let's see the benchmarks and reviews first, but I'm excited for AMD :)

So Radeon RX Vega 64 performs roughly the same as the GTX 1080, priced roughly the same as the GTX 1080, but has significantly higher power consumption than the GTX 1080 and is being released 14 months after the GTX 1080... So the only reasons why one might buy this card is either because they have a FreeSync monitor or because they're a diehard AMD fanboy? Yeesh. What happened to "Make Some Noise" and "Poor Volta"?

 

We saw this coming (well, we should have) with the Frontier Edition card. Yet people shouted out "it's not a gaming card" and "drivers will fix it"... and surprise, surprise, the story doesn't seem to have changed much at all. Radeon RX Vega 56 might be worth looking at if it can outperform a GTX 1070. And even that's a hard sell IMO.

 

I'll wait for the benchmarks because I could, of course, be entirely wrong. But I don't have high hopes at all for Vega. Oh well, time to wait for Navi.

TDP!=TBP. Thermal Design Power is the amount of heat in watts that the board produces, not the amount of power it draws.

 

 

Adeendum - Although apparently back in 2006 AMD used to just use TBP as TDP.

This will get interesting.

But prices of GTX 10xx are going slowly down.

 

I wonder how well will those card overclock, and if those can beat GTX 1070 when overclocked to it's limits.
