RX vega pictures

Saber00

I'm not sure if this is anything new or not but I've just been to a convention called "China Joy"(and yes I'm obviously in china right now)

And they and systems with RX vega cards in them some even in cross fire.

I didn't play too much of it because there was a queue.

If it does turn out to be the rumoured ~$700 USD, then yeah, I will. But I have hope. A little bit of hope.

If it's under $750 AUD, I'll be interested. 1080s go for around $800 at the lowest here.

Interesting. I hope that's a really "gamer" branded card, it looks a little much.

I'm also really hoping that they manage to make another Nano card. Without it I have no interest in Vega, and hello 1070.

Nah, Russia can't interfere as much with the card release.

I'm expecting +/- $50 of the 1080 FE's MSRP. So anywhere from $500 to $600.

I have hope. It may be over 700 in which they are just stupid. But after their huge ryzen success I couldn't see them making that mistake. (might just be wishfull thiking)

They might have to price it at $700, you don't know what the material costs are.

In which it'll flop judging by recent leaks.

Leaks seem to indicate the following things

  1. GTX 1080 levels of performance
  2. Ridiculously high power consumption
  3. Consequently high heat production
  4. Consequently loud cooler even if it happens to be very efficient
  5. Pricing in the ballpark of the GTX 1080 Ti

And what's worse, AMD is trying to pitch the combined price of a G-sync+NVIDIA combo vs a Free-sync+AMD combo and claim a price difference. But they were using a GTX 1080 and a G-sync monitor which was much more expensive than the free sync monitor, showing that the high end Vega SKU is definitely going to be more expensive than the GTX 1080. There was approximately a 600$ price difference on the monitors, so that would entail the high end SKU being in the 1080 Ti price range, confirming point number 5 at the very least. One of the main advantages that AMD GPUs have had was equal or better performance than their NVIDIA counterparts at lower prices, so they would be screwed without that advantage. Vega appears to be a stillborn. Even if the consumer variant happens to have GTX 1080 Ti levels of performance at a similar price, higher power consumption, heat production and the consequent effect it would have on overclocking capabilities would severely disadvantage them.

The pricing RUMOR was specific to a country with ridiculously high prices for hardware that do not, in any way, correlate to prices around the world. As for the marketing, don't read too much into it. A $300 price difference is about the average difference between comparable Freesync and G-sync monitors. Unless AMD is suicidal there is no way they're charging $700 for it. If they are that dumb the card is dead, plain and simple. It won't even attract miners at that point as the price to performance ratio would be way too far off to be worth while and the die hard fans would not be enough to make it a successful product.
