1050ti and a power supply like the cx 450

So, my friend reach me today and asked for help, his current specs are this:

I5 3330

Mw-h61-m2h mobo

2x4gb ddr3 1333Mhz

250w crappy psu

1tb sataII hd

No gpu(just got toasted)

Our budget is 200 usd and we cant stretch any further. :(

Used parts are great

I am going to get a cheap ssd for him so dont worry about it

If its going to be exclusively used for gaming, get a better power supply and a entry level graphics card such as gtx1050ti. If thats too much, something like the 750ti would also work. however you may be better to wait for vega/volta. as then there is likely to be more pascal/maxwell gpus being sold.

If he plans on doing anything other than gaming, get a small (under 240gb) ssd as a boot drive, as that will speed the system up.

Sync RGB fans with motherboard RGB header.

That should be fine.Just get a used 950 or 960 or a R7 370 and call it a day.And maybe a PSU like @Vernw3 said.Spend the rest on Orgin Acces(I can't belive I said that)

A few weeks ago I picked up a $200 refurbished GTX 980, which can still handle anything you throw at it. Therefore, I would suggest looking for a used GTX 970 or 980 from your local Micro Center or Craigslist (or equivalent). As for a power supply, really any 500-watt 80+ power supply from the first ten results on Amazon should be fine for this rig.

Make sure to quote me or use @PorkishPig to notify me that you replied!

I have an ssd boot drive, and have all my games on a old, slow 7200rpm sata II drive. Its old and slow, but is fine for running games off. All thats impacted is the load times.

as has been said alot, get a reasonable power supply, and spend the rest on a GPU. But don't go too far, as spending loads for a card that can run everything at higher frame rates and resolution than your screen supports is a waste of money. Something like a 960 or 970 would be fine for 1080p.

BTW, stay away from origin where ever possible.

Im thinking about a 1050 or 1050ti since they are more power efficient and his motherboard is really crappy (OEM), btw I heard that the 1050ti isn't worth over the 1050, since they cannot use the extra 2gb of memory, so you only get 10% ish better performance, is that true?

I have a 1050ti, and it definitly uses the 4gb. If he plans on playing rise of the tomb raider, get and overclockable one, as that gains you 10fps.

Make sure it's a grey label 2017 one, the old ones make good fireworks, IIRC.

I think the CXM series, IDK much about the CX ones. Check with @STRMfrmXMN.

Either is fine with an i5-3330 and a 1050 Ti. You're not talking parts that consume much power. Any decent brand name 350W or more will be plenty for such a low power system.

The new CX, regardless of modularity, are the same wattage system. 450/550/650 etc. The non M are actually superior in terms of quality due to a better fan xD
