P.S. Thanks for your responses!

You can OC monitors a little (Will vary as it would with CPU or GPU, but wont get that high), but the GPU can still output 90 frames (Even if the monitor cant display all of them), this can help reduce input lag.

So I decided that I wanted to build my own desktop. Since I don't have a monitor, I have to search for one.

While I was searching, I can upon a few questions:

  • Is Hz the maximum FPS the monitor could get?
  • What is cousidered 2K/4K?

Hz (hertz) is the number of times a panel can refresh per second. So a 144Hz monitor can have 144 separate images on screen per second. Higher hertz makes images smoother. 4k is 3840 x 2160, or UHD, QHD is 2160 x 1440, and FHD is 1920 x 1080, and I think people call that 2k?

Edit: so when saying 1080p, 1440p etc you use the second number, or the vertical number of pixels, and 4K/2K is by the first number, or the number of horizontal pixels.

Hz is how many times the screen refreshes, effectively how many FPS it can show. 2K is just a cinematic resolution used in studios, basically 1080p (2048×1080), I think you mean 1440p (2560x1440p). 4K is 4096 × 2160.

There are 16:9 monitors that are square and 21:9 monitors that are rectangular. Hz is it's refresh cycle which is yes how many frames it displays every 1 second, the more the more fluid the movements are in the screen.

2k 4k 8k all these names are stupid forget about them, resolutions are 1920x1080p , 2560x1440p and 3840x2160p for 16:9 monitors and 2560x1080p and 3840x1440p for 21:9.

The higher the resolution the better obviously, you have more virtual space and higher definition images.

IPS is better than TN for image and colour quality.

GTG (Response Time) is meaningless as it isn't true input delay.

That's all you need to know, search youtube about those topics if you wish.

Jesus if I won a dollar every time I have someone content farming with useless addition to the thread like that, I am obviously not writing literally, I am giving OP guidance on what to search and look about towards monitors.

You can have your GPU outputting 90 FPS, but it will not look any smoother. In fact, you would experience some screen tearing.

Your GPU can produce as many frames as it can, the monitor will still only be able of showing 60 frames so it picks the most recent ones on every 1/60 of second.

There are benefits from having more fps than the monitor refresh rate such as reducing input delay which is important for competitive play as follows:

Say giving someone guidance by saying 16:9 is square doesn't make much sense. Also you don't need to get your jimmies rustled over me "farming content," which is stupid because I have been on this site for around 8 months and don't even have 400 posts. I apologize if you felt like I wasn't contributing to the conversation, and I'm sorry, but I really feel like your response was unnecessary.
