Is Ethereum and Bitcoin mining finally dying?

Are the prices actually going down and the difficulty going up? Because I want to get a 1070, but with the current prices, it's essentially better to get a 1080 TI than a 1070, which is wrong. I'm hearing that it's dying, but I want to be sure.

Pretty much addicted to Gaming and Youtube. I think I have a problem.

Thanks. I'm actually extremely happy that it might be dying, and it's also kinds sad since MSI and other GPU manufacturers were going to make Mining GPU's, but they are a bit too late.

well... also maybe :-)

when the mining GPUs are 4 times as fast as the current mining GPUs it will hype up again rather sooner than later.

Hopefully I'll be able to get a 1070 while it's crashing.

That's good since the people who are really serious will just buy those gpus instead. So no matter what the prices should go down in the next 6 months to a year for gpus

ooh, do I hear upgrade from an r9 390? Hopefully!!!

I'm curious if these new mining GPUs will make any unthought of gaming performance increase. Perhaps if the mining GPUs are designed for high stress/heat, it could yield lower thermals in general for GPUs meaning smaller PCs can maybe get better performance.

I that the mining GPUs would have no video ports or no gaming capability, it would be purely for mining nothing else.

mining gpus aren't designed for high stress or heat they're just made the same as gaming gpus withought video ports and no dx

I'm not hoping it's dead forever, just long enough for me to get a 1070 for less than $800.

I just an article about it, and it may or may not help the shortage, the mining GPUs are ones that are more or less throwaway GPUs than ones that passed through quality assurance.

i just killed a 290X mining.. it made me enough money to buy another card.. at least up to a 1070.. but nothing to be had..im a gamer mostly..but it was pretty much free money.. while my GPU worked like a slave to make me a few bucks.

GPU pricing will not go down over night and GPU's will not be in stock so it doesn't matter. I feel like the GPU market wont rebound for months and maybe wont until a new GPU line is introduced.

^ It going to take months for everything to calm down again.

Just like what happen with the first big spike in crypto.  Probably soon used cards will start flooding out, because of peeps who just wanted to jump on for the fast buck.  Long term miners will just keep on trucking.

I'm actually starting to mine altcoins, maybe one day they will be worth a lot. I would also rather not buy a pre-owned card, because their lifespan is heavily degraded after their use in mining.
