Does overclocking graphics card void warranty?

I recently bought a Zotac GTX 1050ti 4gb factory overclocked. I want to know that if I overclock it further more using Afterburner will it void my warranty?

Technically yes, in practice however there is no way to tell unless there is a catastrophic failure that couldn't be from anything else (extremely rare).

 It does. If it doesn't fail or damage the BIOS it can't be told.

Depends on the manufacturer, but generally yes. But they cant know unless you told them.

If you don't mod the BIOS and tell them that you overclocked it, they can't tell that you overclocked it.

In theory yes.

But you can safely OC your GPU to it's max potential and run it 24/7. If it actually dies, just send it back and don't mention any OC. They can't prove that you OCed it, unless you tell them that you did.

it might just be me, but i think returning a card you broke from overclocking and hiding the "evidence" to get a free warranty repair is pretty scummy behaviour..  

 

Also, if they get a card with good working thermals, yet still is artifacting due do overclocking breaking it, they can still easily tell or refuse warranty,

Well I do agree with you, but if I pay 500€ for GPU, I expect that it can handle OC.

MSI and EVGA even provide software for overclocking ...

I didn't say that they can't know if you OCed it or not, but it's just hard to prove it. So usually they won't go over all that struggle, and they will just send you new GPU instead.

 

My GTX 1070 FE was on 2101MHz since I got it, and it was still working great after 1 year without any problems.

Now I got 1070 FTW, and again it's at 2101MHz ... if it will break in next 2,5 years I will surely send it back and request new one.

As far as i know, with near enough any manufacture you will void warrenty by overclocking. But theres not much way they can prove it

EVGA won't refuse an RMA on the basis of the card being overclocked but if you're a dumbass who pumps way too much voltage through your card and burns it up, that's kinda on you. They may have an amazing warranty but their warranty still doesn't cover "I was a dumbass, give me another card!"

Broken GPU from overclocking is rare but it happen whether u just fuck it up or just the gpu being useless.

You have to go out of your way to modify the card to accept higher than safe voltages (or you do with Nvidia cards), so not many people would kill their graphics cards from overvolting anymore. BTW, take GPU binning process with a grain of salt, this is how badly my GTX 970 G1 Gaming does with the silicon lottery despite the "GPU Gauntlet":

It overclocks like shit and hits 80^oc under gaming loads even after I've cleaned the dust from the cooler.

Maybe they're rare to find in the enthusiast community, but along general users it's pretty common. People are dumb and watch a YouTube video or read a tutorial online and go and try things with no other info. If it's a factory defect? Absolutely. That's what the warranty is there to cover. But if it's just you being a dumbass, modded your BIOS and overvolted too aggressively and broke something? Then I'm sorry but at that point you don't deserve a warranty replacement because that's not what a warranty *IS*.

It's kind of hard to break a gpu while overclocking  (You're not flashing your gpu's bios which could trash your gpu if done wrongly)  Also stock bios won't let you turn overhelming amount of voltage up on your gpu, so I'd say it would be pretty hard to trash your gpu, if it's working as it should and is cooled as it should be.

Well, I agree IF you actually broke the card by overclocking. BUT if you oc like anyone else (stock BIOS,just messing around in afterburner for example) and the card breaks, well, you still have the right to RMA (because it is impossible to break a card by safe overclocking, unless the card had already manufacturing problems)
