Intell i7 5690x or Ryzen 7 1800x for 3d modeling and rendering

i was thinking of buying a cpu for 3d rendering and animation work..... i heard 59860x is a great cpu for this work, but when i checked the recent graph i saw ryzen 1800x performs almsot same or better.......>>>> never used AMD cpu thats why confused.....>>> which one to get

R7 1700. Overclock it to match 1800x in clock speed and congrats, you saved money without losing performance.

I would go with the Ryzen chip. They are cheaper for their performance  and have lots of cores and threads which is great for what you need. Just make sure you get a compatible AM4 board or else it wont work.

I think you mean get the 1700, not the 1800X

 

The 5960X is quite a bit better than the 1700 once you overclock it, but it costs a lot more. If you are willing to spend $1000 on a CPU, get the i9 7900X it's much better than both the 1700 and the 5960X

Why are people recommending CPUs without even figuring out what programs op is using first....

True, if the programs he uses support AVX, the i7 7800X or 7820X (and the 7900X) are much better options

Or if they're single threaded (there are a lot of 3D modeling apps and whatnot that are quite single threaded), a 7700k might end up being a better option.

Yeah, Skyalke-X wouldn't be a bad option even if the apps he uses are single threaded, because SKL-X can get very high overclocks (especially if you delid them)

At the same time though if they are single threadedddd.... Why buy a 7800x when you could get a 7700k?  

 

If some are multithreaded and some single I could see skylake x being a good option. Or if they're avx heavy as you mentioned.

Idk  I would get a 7800X because with X299 you have the option of upgrading to a higher end CPU (like the 7980XE)

you could have 2 of thoes at 4ghz for the price of the 5960x running 2 different scenarios. A 1700 isn't a great deal behind the 5960x

Are there any leaked prices on the coffe lake cpus and boards yet ? And do we know if it's an improvement over kaby ? Die shrink ipc improvements ?

Coffee Lake might or not still work on LGA1151, a z370 chipset should be on the normal z170/270 pricing regardless the socket though, there will be that usual "15%" performance improvement since it's just another 14nm polishing but those 2 extra hyper-threaded cores might do a lot of difference, a slightly superior i7 7740x with 6c/12t configuration will be quite superior to either Ryzen and x299 in every way as far as 6 cores CPUs go and since it really is mainstream, not HEDT, pricing has to be decent.

 

The major problem is wait, even bigger problem will be wait and end up disappointing... if OP is in a rush there is no other way a Ryzen 7 1700 is still the way to go, an i7 5690x is outdated even though it still is an awesome chip, just not worth paying its premium price tag.

 

x299 is a joke and nobody with a set limited budget should ever consider it in the first place.

Whilst considering the 7900x x299 cpu 

one should consider that fact the the black silicon that hold the ihs down can creat a bulge causing the tim to become less effective than it could be, this results in higher temperatures when overclocking as apoused to the 5960x

Even at stock the 7900X is 10-15% better than a 4.8-4.9GHz 5960X and only slightly worse in single threaded workloads, so overclocking is nice, but not necessary

In my opinion best value for money would be ryzen go for the 1800 and i would straight up dismiss until for now until coffee lake their x299 and x series of CPU's are not good value for money

Even single core as that was what your surgestion was based upon ? 

I know a 7700k would be the way to go if u you needed only single core 

but if you need high thread counts and single core combined,is the 7900x at stock the best surgestion ? Or would the 5960x shine through at little more in that scenario ?

Fair enough i see where you are coming from but i think we are all in agreement that AMD's offering for what this guy wants to do is better than intel's. What are your views on coffee lake do you think that they are gonna u their game or stick to small increases. In my opinion we havnt seen major improvements from intel since the 2600k and the 3770k
