In all seriousness though, I normally try and show them why my choice is better.

let him come with a arguments and then you counter them all with your research knowledge! 
tell him to come with facts/arguments about why exactly why A is better than B.

The best thing to do is go to forums like this instead of going to people you know for input on these things. That's what I've always done. Although I don't really have hardware fanboys for friends so they don't try to butt in and straight up tell me I'm wrong when I'm explaining my build.

This is easy, instead of telling them "I am going to build" just wait until after then say "I have built".
