Fast answers for cliché questions

Good day!

I made this thread for the new people here in the forums who are confused and wondering about Ryzen issues. If you find any errors, feel free to correct me in a polite way please.

Any feedback will be appreciated. :)

1. 7600k/6700k or R5 1600?

1600. Better for rendering and everything content making. More cores and threads.

2. Ryzen 1600 or 1600X?

1600. The same CPU but cheaper and comes with a cooler. Also applies with the 1700/1700X predicament.

3. B350 or X370?

If you're planning for dual GPU set-ups, X370. Otherwise, B350.

4. DDR3 on my Ryzen CPU?

No.

5. How fast RAM should go on Ryzen?

2666MHz I suggest the minimum. No need more than 3200MHz; unnecessary. (Depends on MB compatibility; check MB manufacturer's website)

6. i5 or R5?

The R5 line-up is much better than the i5's. If you're a content creator, streamer and along those lines, Ryzen, But, 7700k has a different story to tell.

I would still recommend X370 for crossfire though, from what I understand on B350 the second GPU would go through the chipset on PCIe 2.0 x4.

You will less likely to find a MB that is compatible with DDR3.

Well actually you wont. Ryzen does not support DDR3 at all.

I agree. But if you're on a tight budget, 2666MHz will do fine.

It is heavily dependent on the application. In some games, significant gains are seen from 2133 to 2666, although in most games where improvements are seen the gains tend to be very minimal above that.

2933MHz is what most Ryzen owners have been able to achieve without baseclock overclocking.

I saw a grand total gain from 2133 to 3200 of 1% in all of my CPU bound workstation testing though.

The problems with these threads is that people will mostly likely either miss them or ignore them altogether... and continue to post threads asking the same exact questions.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Yeah. But maybe, just maybe, mods will see this and I don't know, they might post something alike. Or, mods can pin this ;) We just want to help people. @Energycore @wkdpaul@*inserts other mods that I don't know sorry*

Yeah, that conversation about pinning things came up and we still came to the exact same conclusion. You're welcome to try but usually these threads sort of go unnoticed.

I've seen simple questions threads before and the key to keep them alive is to start them up and at some point they stay in the top just by the activity in them.

Generally we're weary of pinning too many things however.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

^ this.

Pinned threads are kept to a minimum even when we think a thread is informative we're (mods and admins) still going to discuss about it.

You can also put a link to your threads in your signature, it might not be much but it does help to "advertise" a thread.
