RX 570 ~ 580 No longer an option?

As we all know the miners have caused a worldwide shortage on the latest Polaris cards and lately the pricing of these cards are "hilarious" to say the least on the most reputable worldwide retailers, here in Brazil for instance one of our main hardware retailer: kabum.com.br is selling a 4gb RX 580 for as much as a GTX 1080

So I suppose these radeons cards are no longer viable to be suggested as for now, it might annoy some people but yeah the GTX 1060 and other nVidia offerings are back on top since AMD keeps falling to supply the market demand, what are every one's thoughts about what is going on? Will Vega solve the issue or it'll be just another line up to suffer from shortages and not really get as relevant on the gaming scenario as it's competition? We're roughly half year away from Volta coming out after all.

 

I personally find it hard to believe a RX580 is as good as a GTX 1080 at mining but that is how far we got apparently, how mess up did pricing got on your country too? [:

According to PCPer, it just depends on what you're doing. Some algorithms (and currencies) are more efficient on AMD hardware, but others prefer CUDA. They also said that the GDDR5X, with its higher latency than GDDR5 causes the 1080 to fall behind the 1070.

 

As for the greater topic, unless you have a Freesync monitor I don't see the big deal. The 580 and 1060 may as well be the same card, just get one of them and be happy with it.

In my place:

Prices for brand new 580s jumped to about $410. Second hand prices are about $390 (because 580s are out of stock). The highest bidding price for a 580 is $475.... CRAZY

 

Even older 480s cost around $380 used and 470s $340 used.

 

there are people that are dedicated to Bitcoin, and not any other cryptocurrency. When Bitcoin prices dropped hard a few days ago, they all tried to sell their mining tools. In the local used website, there is are sellers selling 48 480s at once. Yep, 48, at $192 each.

I believe the main point of discussion here could be towards what will be of Vega? If it outperforms the RX580 in mining these cards are faded to become pointless to gamers as the prices will inflate so much that buying a 1080ti will be cheaper regardless... weird weird weird but AMD might really be off the scene on gaming right now.

For those prices, I'd say it's time to look into a used R9 Fury X or a used 980 Ti.

Not sure. We don't know how HBM2 will perform in mining (some currencies require vram calculations too). HBM on Fury cards seemed to be fine, but who knows what they have done to HBM2

That's bullshit. I hate how there are more massive fluctuations with prices in today's market. There were always fluctuations but they never seemed this bad. I bought 16GB of DDR4 for my computer in September for I forget $50-60, now it costs twice that. This is so dumb.
