So rather insignificant then :) just seeing a lot of AVX-512 being banded around as a vital feature and wondered what it was useful for :)

Yeah, there's very little known about what will support AVX-512, but it damn sure is going to be a hell of a lot faster then AVX or AVX2.  Either way, I'm glad to have the option, which is better then to not.

Regarding the OP (the post not you):

- Yeah 10 cores beat 8 who'd a guessed it?

We already knew it.  It wasn't really a guess.  :D

- No mention of Thermals so i'm guessing it ran warm

Guys are hitting 4.6 GHz and above without delidding with a 10 core chip.  Who cares?  I'm sure that if Intel managed to find a way to actually slow down their silcon to say a 4 GHz limitation, the chip would run nice an cool.

Just now, tom_w141 said:

- Single core as expected (but you would be mad to spend this much on a cpu if you intend to do single core tasks)

Some of us want our cake and to eat it to.  If having that option costs more money, then so be it.  I'll still buy a Threadripper too, but I know it will be more limited in this fashion.  To be expected though as it's going to be cheaper with more limitations.  No big deal.

Just now, tom_w141 said:

- Multi core nothing to write home about marginally better than the 6950X

But with a great deal more headroom for overclocking.

Just now, tom_w141 said:

Need to wait for threadripper to compare results, comparing to an 8 core is a waste of time (even though you could buy 3 8 core R7 systems (mobo + cpu) for the cost of this 1 cpu :P

Again, value is important to you and you selected the right platform for you.

generally tho. The n00b tools make it easy.

The problem is that there are resistors or whatever are close to the glue that holds the IHS, it's possible you pull them off when delidding regardless of how careful you are.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

It's intel, they don't know what support is tbh.

Last story i read was of a guy that got a cpu from a relative that died, Intel didn't give him a new one becuause the RMA had to be requested by the dead person which is clearly not a possibility D:

I don't think they are cutting corners, soldering shouldn't be that hard to do, they probably ran into other issues -_-

Probably.  Skylake X is not really a "Value" oriented product.

I think you misunderstood me.  I already use plenty of stuff that uses AVX and AVX2, both of which perform substantially better on a modern day Intel chip then a current AMD chip.  They may not be very well known, but Adobe products and Handbrake (especially H.265, but H.264 as well) love some AVX and AVX2.

While AVX-512 hasn't been integrated into anything that I currently use, I'll still enjoy the non-crippled benefits of the current standards.

Yet the thermals don't appear to be the problem you implied or previously stated when highlighting Skylake-X's lack of solder.  Not nearly "the sky's falling" scenario that some folks painted.  :(

Rest assured that if you could possibly make a Ryzen chip run at 4.5 GHz or higher using water, it too would run a tad bit warmer then you think.   Especially when you watch the sharp rise in voltage required for most to hit 4 GHz (if they are lucky).  :D  The fact is, you can't so we'll never know, but feel free to talk about how warm an Intel chip is getting at 4.6 - 5.0 GHz on water.  At least Intel was nice enough to provide us a chip that can do it so that you can talk about it sucking thermally.

Why didn't I quote the rest? Well I agree that's why :P

To get more than 4.0GHz on Ryzen you need at least 1.5V xD
