Posted June 14, 2017 RX580's are crazy because of the etherium (is that right?) mining going on. IDK about the 1060s though. They're gone too? If you can't find any new, look for a used GPU. I' getting a 980 Ti (slightly more powerful than a 1070 if it's a good overclocker) for $300 form a guy on Craigslist. Posted June 14, 2017 You can mine crypto currency with gpu's and trade them for money. Because those gpu's are profitable after a few months everyone wants them. I mean if you invest like a few grand and get your investment money back after 3-ish months and earn pure profit from that point, it's a damn good investment. Also you don't need to do sh*t. Just get it up and running and that's it. The only risk is when the value of the crypto currency does down a lot which will likely happen eventually. Also once the hype is over and people get bored, the used market will flood with those gpu's making them great options for gamers that want one. If you want my attention, quote meh! Can't they just buy a Titan or a Quadro or other cards designed for this type of compute stuff? They're more expensive, but they should run it better than a 1060. My main worry is noobs will be trying to do it (them sick $$$, lol ), put a massive stress on the cards, and then they'll be wasted because they are worn out and no one wants them. Plus, once the craze is over they'll be selling them, and more noobs will buy ones that have been mistreated and then they'll break. And you can't recycle electronics very well. Most of the rare stuff they use in them is stuck in the components once they're built... DISCLAIMER: I was a total noob when it came to PC components until about 2-3 months ago. Like I said, the main problem will be noobs who don't know what they're doing and just want to make some money for 'free'. They probs won't account for power and such, or take care of the GPUs, so they won't get a good ROI. It's been a while since I looked into this (7970 ghz/ 280X) but at that time, the money gained from mining vs 24/7 power consumption wasn't worth killing the cards.
