Reason to buy GT 1030

Fr4nt1s3k

I am going to upgrade this PC:

Motherboard:   ASUS P8H61-MX R2.0/SI

CPU: Intel Celeron G540
RAM:       8 GB          *edit, 8
SSD:        256 GB
HDD:        500 GB
PC has one fan at the back, 1x CD/DVD mechanics. 4 USB ports and an SD card reader.

I know GTX 750 ti and GTX 1050 ti are much better value when it comes to performance/price, but people overlook PSU requirements and TDP.

GTX 750 ti has TDP of 60W
GT 1030 has TDP of 30W!!!

My Delta Electronics 300W PSU might not handle better graphics cards like GTX 1060 etc., but it "should" be able to handle GTX 1050 ti and GTX 750 ti if they don't require additional power cable, because the PSU doesn't have any.

GT 1030 on the other hand is probably a safe choice and won't make my PSU short-circuit. Even if GTX 750 ti was safe to use too, the CPU would bottleneck the whole system anyway, so that would be pretty much a waste of money.

Do you agree with me? Do I talk bull$h1t? Will the PSU handle it? (I'm not an IT expert and I might have missed something, please warn me if you see a problem in my build)

Unless you have a crappy low wattage PSU like below 200W, 1050TI is your best option

The PC is pre-built and 5 years old. I know Delta PSUs are good, but I don't want to risk :D We share the PC in our family and mum would kill me.

But really, isn't it an overkill? Celetron G540 (2.5 GHz, 2 cores, no hyperthreading and other modern things...) is just so weak  xD

If you're about buy a new GPU and know your PC is a POS... just save a little more for CPU, MB and GPU, maybe an extra 4/8 GB stick, as you can reuse other parts in there if you want

Come on, don't make me buy it. I was hesitating to buy the MSI GeForce GTX 1050 xD It also requires only 300W PSU, but the TDP is 75W... idk if PSU can handle it... does anybody have experience with it?

Sorry, my mistake. The PC has 8 GB of RAM now. I might upgrade the CPU in future too...

You have a 60 W CPU and a GTX 1050 Ti without power connector will rarely go over 60 W too in gaming...

I know manufacturers overrate the watts needed. I have seen a few tests and the gaming TDP was 67W, peak 75W, idle 3W... maybe I will go for the GTX 1050 then, but only because I am going to upgrade the CPU too in the future.

psu won't be a problem at all. I have ran a rx480 and a phenom ii x6 1090t on a 280w just fine.

Really? It's nice to hear that. Can someone please check the photo of the PSU specifications? I don't fully undestand the thing with rails, 3.3V, 5V, 12V1, 12V2... 65W CPU, 75W GPU, memory, 1x fan at the back, DVD/CD RW, USB etc... if you see no problem, I will get the GTX 1050. It sounds and looks cooler too.

It seems buying GT 1030 is for non gaming purposes

I think you might be using TDP or of context. It has nothing to do with per draw, but heat dissipation.

@Fr4nt1s3k I realized you're on LGA 1155, if you can find used i5-2400 or i7-2600K you're good to go for GTX 970

Ok I've edited my comment, yes GTX 750Ti is a good choice if you're still going on that CPU
