DIRTY AMD CPU

ok so I was trouble shooting some overheating issues and I think I got thermal paste on the AMD pins so I need to clean it quick any ideas? I am freaking out and despite

alternatively you could just soak it in a bath of isopropl alcohol, wouldnt do any harm to the chip and should loosen/dissolve the stuff ?

those pins are pretty durable same happened to me use cotton swabs and gently removed paste. I also used a compressed air cans with the straw to blow off some paste residue. oh yea use isopropyl on the swabs.

How fragile are the pins? You might be able to soften the paste with a careful application of isopropyl alcohol, then use a soft toothbrush and super carefully brush it off.

But that might get under the heatsink and dissolve the thermal paste over the die, forcing you to delid and replace it.

Just use some alcohol to remove it. Maybe even use toothpick if there is a lot of TIM. But be careful not to damage anything ... do it gentle wink wink

I am not sure how fragile they are and I don't want to test it but I only have 50% isopropyl alcohol will that work?

Provided it isn't an excessive blob a mixture of isopropyl alcohol tooth picks and Q-tips should get it off. Also as others have mentioned even though the pins are fragile they still won't bend if you're gently poking around them with a Q-tip or tooth pick. Just don't go trying to stab them down in between the pins and work slowly.

Should. Even Vodka works, and I think it's about 40-some percent alcohol. Just be sure and be super careful!

They are solder. You cant disolve it

Yeah, but doesn't it have thermal paste between the actual CPU and the metal plate on top? I know that extreme overclockers will delid CPU's and replace the thermal paste. That's what I'm worried about it dissolving.

Drizzle some isopropyl on it, get it as clean as you can.  If there's a little residue just say fuck it and put it in the socket anyways.  Paste is probably nonconductive anyways.

Like @Simon771 said, isopropyl alcohol and toothpick. Carefully go between the pins and pick the paste off. If its to fat to fit in between try to thin it down or You could also use a needle just dont scratch the bottom of the chip
