GTX 1080 Ti and 144Hz

Slayher

Hi,

I recently purchased the GTX 1080 Ti reference model which only has HDMI and Display Port. I also have a BenQ Zowie XL2411 monitor which is 144Hz.

I have tried using HDMI and I only get 60Hz. I also tried the display port --> dvi adapter that was included in the box and I'm only capped at 60Hz. What would I need to run my at 144Hz? Please help me/link me! Thank you.

* PS: MY MONITOR ONLY HAS HDMI/Display Port *

Maybe try an active DP to DVI adapter? Also you could try "overclocking"  to the 144Hz.

Make sure you're using a cable that supports high refresh rates. After that, check setting in your nvidia control panel and also check the setting on your monitor itself. Between those two things you should solve your problem!

he meant dvi, it doesnt have display port, you would know that if you had one, which i do.

op was mistaken, he said he had a display port to dvi adapter and he meant his monitor has the dvi port.

HDMI 2.0. However I don't think HDMI supports any refresh rates over 60 Hz as far as I know, so feel free to correct me.

You will need a DisplayPort cable. Did your monitor come with one? This is what it would look like on each end of the cable:

Something is clearly missing here. I don't imagine it should take much legwork, much less require an adapter to get the full 144Hz range. Perhaps there's something in the instruction manual that tells you how to get the full 144Hz range. The only thing I can think of is that you're simply not using a high bandwidth HDMI cable or dual link DVI.

Maybe people who buy ref models are working with limited space/airflow? Maybe the person wants to do aftermarket cooling? I'm more curious as to why people still bark at others for buying reference models without knowing their needs or goals.

HDMI 2.0 support on the graphics card doesn't matter because the monitor only has HDMI 1.4 support. Either way, HDMI doesn't have any limit on refresh rate, it can be used for 144 Hz just fine. Many monitors don't support >60 Hz over HDMI, but it's not a limitation of HDMI, just a limitation of those monitors.

The monitor doesn't support >60 Hz over HDMI, and doesn't have DisplayPort, so the only way to get >60 Hz is to use Dual-Link DVI.

The graphics card only has HDMI and DisplayPort, and both of those only support adapters to Single-Link DVI, not Dual-Link. So, >60 Hz will not be possible here, at least not without a $100 DisplayPort to DL-DVI converter.

True. It slipped my mind that the reference 1080Ti doesn't have a DVI output.

This adapter should do the trick https://www.amazon.com/Displayport-Dual-Link-Adapter-Support-CAC-1055/dp/B01LCQLDC4/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1495354260&sr=8-19&keywords=displayport+to+"dual+link"+dvi-d
